Dell Technologies sells servers, storage and networking to businesses (Infrastructure Solutions Group, $60.8 billion of fiscal 2026 revenue) and PCs and related devices (Client Solutions Group, $51.0 billion). Our three cases are $23 (bear), $77 (base) and $123 (bull) per share. How we measure earnings. We start from operating cash flow and remove swings in receivables, inventory, payables and deferred revenue, then subtract stock compensation and the part of capital spending needed just to stand still. On that basis, earnings per diluted share were about $3.79 in fiscal 2023, $6.03 in fiscal 2024, $7.63 in fiscal 2025 and $10.95 in fiscal 2026. We start the record at fiscal 2023, the first full year after the November 2021 VMware spin-off, because earlier years include a very different business. Fiscal 2026 was distorted by working capital: payables rose $12.7 billion while receivables and inventory rose $13.8 billion combined, and we removed that net timing effect. Amortization of acquired intangibles ($497 million in fiscal 2026, mostly from the 2016 EMC deal) is a non-cash charge and is added back; it has been shrinking (from $833 million in fiscal 2024), so it does not change our view of the business. Starting level. We use the median of the four years since the spin-off, about $6.83 per share, rather than the latest year. Fiscal 2026 is the high point of a fast AI-server build-out and the PC business has swung with its own cycle, so one year is not a reliable guide to what the company earns through a cycle. Dell's reported results for the first half of fiscal 2027 are much stronger: revenue of $90.8 billion versus $53.2 billion a year earlier, and net income of $7.6 billion versus $2.1 billion. Operating cash flow rose far less, to $6.3 billion from $5.3 billion, and we could not reconcile that gap from the data we reviewed, so we did not raise the starting level on the strength of those profit figures. Growth reconciliation. Owner earnings per share grew about 43% in fiscal 2026. Our base case assumes no growth in year 1: a step up of this size has been driven by AI servers ($24.7 billion of revenue in fiscal 2026, up from $9.3 billion and $1.9 billion in the two prior years), which are a large, lumpy, lower-margin part of the business. Dell had about $82 billion of remaining contracted obligations at January 30, 2026, with about 78% expected to convert to revenue within twelve months, but that is a revenue figure with no profit attached, so we did not credit it as growth. Reduced share count from buybacks (diluted shares fell from 753 million to 684 million over the period) is also not credited, since the full earnings stream already belongs to the remaining holders. Base case ($77). Earnings stay flat at about $6.83 per share for 15 years, then fade to zero over the following 10 years. The evidence: Dell has produced positive owner earnings in every year we examined, including the post-spin trough years, and infrastructure segment operating margin has held at roughly 12-13% (11.7% in fiscal 2026, 12.8% in fiscal 2025, 12.6% in fiscal 2024) even as lower-margin AI servers grew, which tested our concern that AI mix would erode profit. Beyond about 15 years we give no credit to a product cycle we cannot name, so value tapers. Bear case ($23). Earnings fall back to roughly $3.30 per share, close to the fiscal 2023 low of $3.79 less higher interest, for five years, then fade to zero over ten. Named pressures: consumer PC revenue has fallen from $9.1 billion to $6.9 billion in two years; AI-server profit may not persist once current customer builds finish; and Dell has taken on more debt, with total principal of $31.8 billion at January 30, 2026 ($7.0 billion more than a year earlier), including $21.6 billion of senior notes and $9.1 billion of financing-arm debt. Interest on this debt is already paid out of the cash flow we start from, so we did not subtract it again; the added borrowing is the reason the bear case is lower. Bull case ($123). Earnings hold at the fiscal 2026 level of about $10.95 per share for 15 years, then fade over 10 years. This is a level Dell has already reached, supported by the contracted obligations above and by a supply chain that let Dell grow revenue 19% in fiscal 2026. We do not assume further growth. What would make this wrong. If AI-server demand reverses sharply, or if margins fall as the mix shifts toward those lower-margin products, the bear case is more likely. If the first-half fiscal 2027 profit surge is confirmed in operating cash flow over further quarters, our starting level is too low. The margin-of-safety price of $35 reflects a large safety cushion for a cyclical, thin-margin hardware business with rising debt.
