Hewlett Packard Enterprise sells servers (including AI systems), networking equipment, hybrid cloud and storage, and financing services to businesses and governments. In fiscal 2025 (year ended October 31, 2025) revenue was $34.3 billion: Server $17.6 billion, Networking $6.8 billion, Hybrid Cloud $5.5 billion and Financial Services $3.5 billion. On July 2, 2025 it completed the $13.6 billion purchase of Juniper Networks, which lifted Networking segment revenue from $4.5 billion in fiscal 2024 to $6.8 billion. How we measure earnings. We start from cash generated by operations, remove swings in receivables, inventory, financing receivables and payables (these swung by billions: in fiscal 2024 inventory rose $3.4 billion and payables rose $3.9 billion, and in fiscal 2025 both reversed), subtract stock compensation as a real cost, and subtract the capital spending needed to keep the business running. On that basis, owner earnings per share over fiscal 2019 to 2025 were $1.02, $0.99, $3.13, -$0.27, $1.91, $1.54 and $2.20. Fiscal 2022 (-$0.27) was pulled down by a $1.9 billion outflow in other operating assets and liabilities; fiscal 2017 (-$1.60, outside our window) had a similar $2.5 billion outflow. We use the median of fiscal 2019 to 2025, $1.54, because these seven years cover both the fiscal 2020 trough and the fiscal 2021 rebound. That median, restated onto about 1,418 million shares (which counts the mandatory convertible preferred stock converting into common shares and employee awards), is about $1.45 per share, or roughly $2.1 billion a year. We deliberately did not raise this level for Juniper, even though nine-month fiscal 2026 results look stronger, because the deal came with higher debt and interest costs and the recent cash swings in inventory and payables are large. Trailing growth check. Owner earnings per share grew 43% in fiscal 2025 ($2.20 versus $1.54), but that year included Juniper for only four months. The base case assumes 0% growth in year 1, below the trailing rate, because no contract, backlog or multi-year record puts further growth in hand. Juniper synergies, AI server demand and networking share gains are management targets or market expansion, so they are not credited in any case. Base case, about $18 per share: owner earnings stay flat at about $1.45 per share for ten years, then decline 5% a year, reflecting an installed base of servers and networking that has held revenue in a $27 to $34 billion range for nine years but has no evidenced growth engine. Depreciation and amortization ($2.7 billion in fiscal 2025) is already inside cash flow and is not deducted again; because acquired intangibles wear out, we reflect that through zero growth and the fade after year ten rather than by lowering the earnings level. Bear case, about $10.7 per share: owner earnings fall back to the average of fiscal 2019 and 2020 ($1.3 billion, or $0.94 per share) and stay there, then decline 8% a year. The named pressures are: Server segment operating profit fell from $1.80 billion to $1.34 billion in fiscal 2025 even as revenue rose from $15.8 billion to $17.6 billion; the provision for inventory and credit losses rose from $175 million to $511 million; long-term debt rose from $13.5 billion to $17.8 billion and interest paid rose from $772 million to $1.02 billion; and the Juniper settlement with the Department of Justice remained under court review: twelve state attorneys general and the District of Columbia filed a motion to intervene on October 14, 2025, which the court granted, and on November 18, 2025 asked the court to bar further integration, with a hearing set for January 8, 2026. We could not confirm from the filings we reviewed how that review was resolved after the December 2025 annual report. Bull case, about $35.1 per share: owner earnings hold at the fiscal 2026 nine-month run rate. Through July 31, 2026, cash from operations was $4.2 billion; after adding back $1.2 billion of net working-capital outflow and subtracting $0.6 billion of stock compensation and $1.9 billion of capital spending (all of it, counting none as growth spending), owner earnings were $2.9 billion, or about $3.9 billion annualized and $2.71 per share on 1,441 million diluted shares. Holding that level for ten years, then declining 4% a year, gives the bull value. It requires no synergies, only that three full quarters with Juniper persist. What could make us wrong: Server margins could keep shrinking or credit losses could keep rising, pushing results toward the bear case; conversely a full year of Juniper could prove structurally higher. The preferred stock pays a 7.625% dividend until it converts, and we treat it as converting into shares. Guidance from management was not used to set any figure.
