Eaton is an Ireland-incorporated industrial company that makes electrical equipment (switchgear, power distribution and backup power for data centers, utilities and buildings), aerospace components and vehicle drivetrain parts. It reported 2025 net sales of $27.4 billion. Electrical Americas is the engine: segment operating profit rose from $2,675 million in 2023 to $3,972 million in 2025. How we measure earnings. We start from cash from operations, remove swings in working capital, subtract stock compensation as a real cost, and subtract only the part of capital spending needed to maintain the business. On that basis owner earnings per share were $4.95 (2018), $6.45, $4.52 (2020), $4.60, $6.38, $7.45, $9.21 and $10.78 (2025). Working capital was a large drag in 2025 ($718 million, including a $357 million build in unbilled receivables), so we treated it as timing rather than lasting cost. Eaton also records about $486 million a year of acquired-intangible amortization; it is non-cash and correctly added back, but because acquired assets wear out we allow no growth beyond what the order book supports. Starting level. The last three years (2023 to 2025) are a distinct regime: owner earnings of $7.45, $9.21 and $10.78. We anchor on the median of those three, $9.21. This is below the 2025 figure. Owner earnings grew about 17% in 2025; the base case assumes zero growth in year 1 relative to the anchor, so it does not extrapolate that pace. Base case, about $165 per share. Year 1 at $9.21. Then 4% a year for two years, which is supported by a firm order backlog of $19.8 billion at December 31, 2025 (69% due for delivery within twelve months; Electrical Americas backlog alone was $13.2 billion, up 31%, with orders running ahead of shipments). After that, we hold earnings flat at about $9.95 per share for the remainder, because nothing signed extends growth further. We give no credit for data-center demand continuing to expand, share gains, margin improvement, or the acquisitions described below. Earnings are assumed to persist as a flat stream because Eaton has generated positive owner earnings in every year we examined, including the 2020 downturn, from a large installed equipment base that needs servicing and replacement. Bear case, about $65 per share. Order growth in data-center and utility markets reverses and Electrical volumes fall back to the 2018 to 2022 level (median owner earnings about $4.95 per share). On top of that, Eaton has agreed to acquire Boyd Thermal for $9.5 billion (expected to close in the second quarter of 2026) and has arranged a term loan to fund part of it; it also acquired Ultra PCS for $1.53 billion in January 2026 and does not plan share repurchases in 2026. We assume roughly $1 per share a year of added after-tax interest cost (our estimate) and no earnings contribution from Boyd. Result: about $4.00 per share, flat. Bull case, about $245 per share. Backlog converts on schedule and Eaton keeps the pricing and mix seen in 2024 and 2025. Starting from the 2025 level of $10.78, owner earnings grow 8% a year for three years, then 4% a year for three years, then hold flat at about $15.30. What could make this wrong. Data-center spending is concentrated in Electrical Americas, so a pause would hit the largest source of profit. The Boyd deal is large relative to prior acquisitions and its terms could change or fail to close. On the other hand, the $19.8 billion backlog and the record of positive owner earnings through 2020 argue against the bear case being much lower. We could not verify the most recent quarterly filing in detail; this analysis rests on the 2025 annual report. The margin-of-safety price is set at a discount to the base case because earnings have roughly doubled in three years and much of that reflects a demand surge that could normalize; the margin-of-safety price of $100 sits between the bear and base values.
