Hubbell makes the hardware that connects and protects the electric grid and the buildings it feeds. Utility Solutions (about $3.7 billion of 2025's $5.84 billion of sales) sells connectors, anchors, insulators, arresters, switches, substation and transmission components and, through Aclara, utility meters and grid-automation equipment. Electrical Solutions sells wiring devices, fittings, connectors and power-distribution products for industrial, data-center and commercial buildings. About 93% of sales are in the United States, mostly through electrical distributors and directly to utilities; the ten largest customers take about 42% of sales. How we measured earnings. We start from operating cash flow, strip out swings in working capital, charge stock compensation as the real cost it is, and subtract the capital spending needed to keep the business running (growth spending is excluded). Amortization of acquired intangibles is added back as a sunk acquisition cost; because that hides some slow decay in acquired brands and customer lists, we keep long-run growth well below the company's past pace. On that basis owner earnings rose from $5.85 a share in 2016 to $16.88 in 2025 ($903 million). Years before 2019 still include the commercial lighting business sold to GE Current in February 2022, so the series is not perfectly comparable. Hubbell does not disclose cash interest paid, so we use reported net interest expense as the interest figure when measuring the business before its lenders. The starting level. Hubbell changed shape after 2022: commercial lighting sold, Systems Control and EIG bought in 2023, residential lighting sold in 2024, DMC Power bought in October 2025 for $825 million and NSI Industries (Bridgeport fittings, Polaris connectors, Tork timers) bought in June 2026 for $3.0 billion. We use the median of 2023-2025 cash earnings before interest, $885 million, rather than the 2025 peak of $967 million. Price increases since 2022 have held for three years, but 2025 Utility Solutions volumes actually fell (organic sales up only 1.1%, with meter and grid-automation projects weak), and its 21.5% operating margin is high by its own history. To this we add a full year of the two new businesses, rebuilt from the earnings the company disclosed at signing (DMC about $60 million of EBITDA, NSI about $194 million implied by the 15.5x price) less capital spending and tax: about $33 million more from DMC than 2025 already included and about $139 million from NSI. NSI's first three weeks of ownership produced $35 million of sales, consistent with its expected $570 million a year. Starting point: about $1,057 million, or $19.87 a share before interest. Growth check. Owner earnings per share grew 12.3% in 2025 (10.3% before interest). Our base case assumes 3% in year one, below that pace, because 2025's gain came from price and acquisitions while unit volumes fell. Base case: earnings grow 3% a year for ten years, roughly the price pass-through and low-single-digit organic growth Hubbell has shown across cycles, then 2% for ten more years, then hold flat. Holding the level indefinitely rests on a structural fact: utilities and building owners must keep buying connectors, fittings and protection hardware to maintain an installed grid, and Hubbell's brands have been specified for decades. We give no credit to utility spending booms, data-center growth, acquisition synergies or margin targets. The business is worth about $24.5 billion ($461 a share). Bear case: margins fall back so organic earnings return to the 2023 level ($758 million), the newly bought businesses earn 20% less than management indicated at signing, growth is 1% a year for ten years, earnings stay flat for twenty more years and then we credit nothing further. Value about $13.3 billion ($249 a share). Bull case: the 2025 level ($967 million) holds, the acquisitions deliver as indicated, pricing power and productivity continue to lift earnings 5% a year for ten years and 3% for ten more, then flat. Value about $32.7 billion ($614 a share). Debt. At June 30, 2026, after borrowing for NSI ($1.9 billion of new notes at 4.65%-5.15% due 2031-2036, a $900 million term loan and commercial paper), Hubbell owed about $5.37 billion against $379 million of cash. We treat about $259 million of cash as surplus and reduce the debt by about $208 million because the fixed-rate notes (2.3% to 5.15%) cost less than 6% until they mature. Net debt is about $4.9 billion, or $92 a share. The June 2026 balances come from the company's second-quarter report and could not yet be reconciled line by line against a full annual filing. The main financial covenant requires total debt below 65% of capitalization. Notes of $300 million (2027) and $450 million (2028) and the $600 million 2025 term loan (2028) come due first; even in the bear case cash earnings before interest of about $900 million cover roughly $250 million of annual interest several times over. What the shares appear to be worth: bear $157, base $369, bull $522 a share (business value less net debt). The range is wider on the downside than before because debt per share nearly tripled with the NSI purchase. Our previous estimate (base $282) applied higher discount rates; we now discount every company at the same 6% and express risk through the range of cases, which raises the values, while the new debt pulls them back down. What would make this wrong: a multi-year cut in utility spending on distribution and transmission hardware, a loss of pricing as raw-material costs fall, or NSI earning well below the roughly $194 million of EBITDA implied by its price. Hubbell paid about 15.5 times NSI's expected EBITDA, and at a 6% hurdle that price earns less than its cost unless NSI keeps growing, so further large debt-funded purchases at similar prices would lower the value per share.

Sales geography
United States (about 93% of sales, nationwide across the Northeast, Midwest, South and West, sold through electrical distributors and directly to electric utilities); the remaining roughly 7% mainly from Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and other international markets.
Historical growth strategy
Steady organic growth from price realization and product breadth in utility transmission/distribution hardware and electrical components, supplemented by a long record of bolt-on and increasingly larger acquisitions (Burndy 2009, Aclara 2018, Systems Control and EIG 2023, DMC Power 2025, NSI Industries 2026) and pruning of lower-return businesses (commercial lighting sold 2022, residential lighting sold 2024).
Chart analysis
Over the past decade the stock has been in a long-term uptrend: it moved sideways in a broad range from 2016 through 2020, broke out in 2021 and climbed steeply through 2023-2024, a pattern a chartist would call a strong momentum advance with higher highs and higher lows. The tariff-driven selloff in early 2025 produced a sharp drawdown that held above the earlier breakout zone and was followed by a recovery, which a chartist would read as a successful retest of support within the longer uptrend. Volatility has been noticeably higher since 2024, and a chartist would watch whether the price keeps holding its rising long-term moving averages after the debt-funded NSI purchase.
