DXP Enterprises distributes maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) products and services -- pumps, bearings, hoses, valves, safety equipment and related engineered solutions -- to industrial customers across three segments: Service Centers (the core distribution branch network), Innovative Pumping Solutions (engineered pump packages, its fastest-growing segment, up roughly 25% in 2025), and Supply Chain Services (on-site inventory management for large accounts). Growth has come from a mix of steady organic demand and a continuous diet of smaller acquisitions folded into the branch network. We estimate what the business earns for its owners by starting from operating cash flow and stripping out the swings that come from inventory and receivables building up or unwinding, the non-cash cost of stock compensation, and the portion of capital spending that funds growth rather than simply keeping existing branches running. Looking at the five years since the pandemic-era trough of 2020 -- which we treat as distorted by an unusual, temporary combination of COVID and a commodity-price collapse rather than representative of the ongoing business -- normalized owner earnings run at roughly $4.36 per share. Our base case assumes growth gradually slows from around 7% a year in the near term toward 3% by year ten, consistent with DXP's history of mid-single-digit organic growth topped up by bolt-on acquisitions, and that demand for consumable industrial parts and services continues at a modest pace indefinitely beyond that. Unlike a business whose products or contracts expire on a fixed date, an MRO distributor's earning power does not have a natural cliff, so a long-duration view is appropriate here. On this basis we estimate the shares are worth around $119 today. About two-thirds of that value depends on what the business earns many years out rather than in the next decade -- the normal shape for a durable, non-expiring distribution business, but it does mean the estimate leans heavily on the assumption that DXP keeps selling into a growing industrial customer base indefinitely. Our bear case (roughly a one-in-ten outcome) assumes DXP's oil-and-gas-exposed customers go through another commodity-driven downturn similar to 2020, with a couple of years of falling volumes before a slow recovery, compounded by the fact that DXP just took on substantially more debt -- it refinanced and increased its term loan to about $846 million in December 2025 at a floating rate near 7% -- leaving less cushion in a downturn. Even so, DXP came through the 2020 downturn without threatening its solvency, so this case still produces a solidly positive value, around $72 per share, not a wipeout. Our bull case (roughly a one-in-ten better outcome) assumes the faster-growing pumping-solutions business keeps compounding at its recent pace, acquisitions continue to be digested well, and margins expand modestly as the larger branch network spreads overhead more efficiently, without another commodity shock. That produces a value near $153 per share. Because the downside case is a reasonably healthy match to the base case rather than a steep cliff, we think a moderate margin of safety is appropriate -- the margin-of-safety price is around $89 per share, leaving room for the cyclicality and higher-debt risks named above without the very large discount a more fragile business would require. Two accounting notes worth flagging: for 2018 and 2019 the company later corrected previously reported figures for receivables, inventory and payables (via an amendment filed in 2021), and we used the corrected numbers. We also treated all non-cash charges -- depreciation, amortization of acquired intangibles, deferred taxes -- as add-backs to cash flow, which is standard, but we offset the eventual decline of acquired intangibles by keeping our long-term growth assumption modest rather than assuming today's margins continue unchanged forever.
