BlackRock is the world's largest asset manager. It earns fees as a percentage of the money it manages: iShares exchange-traded funds and index funds, active equity and bond funds, cash funds, and, since the GIP (infrastructure, closed October 2024), Preqin (private-markets data, March 2025) and HPS (private credit, July 2025) acquisitions, a much larger private-markets business. It also sells its Aladdin investment-management software to other institutions on multi-year contracts. Revenue was $24.2 billion in 2025. Because fees follow asset values, earnings move with markets: revenue fell 8% in 2022 and was flat in 2023, then grew 14% in 2024 and 19% in 2025. How we measure earnings. We start from operating cash flow and remove the swings in working capital, the cost of stock compensation, and the capital spending needed to keep the business running. One adjustment matters a lot here: BlackRock's reported operating cash flow includes money it invests to seed and run funds it consolidates on its books (for example $4.2 billion of net purchases in 2025). That is investing, not operating, and is largely funded by outside fund investors, so we exclude it. On that basis owner earnings per share grew from about $18.58 in 2015 to $32.72 in 2020, $38.06 in 2022, $35.28 in 2023, $42.77 in 2024 and $41.71 in 2025. We value the business before its lenders by adding back cash interest (about $3 per share in 2025), giving about $44.70 per share in both 2024 and 2025. Non-cash charges are added back, including about $1.1 billion a year of amortization on acquired client contracts and a $720 million non-cash increase in the GIP and HPS earn-out in 2025. Those earn-outs are paid in shares, not cash (4.0-5.2 million BlackRock shares for GIP and 2.8-4.4 million exchangeable units for HPS), so we add about 8.2 million shares to the count rather than treating them as debt. Starting level. We use $44.68 per share, the median of 2023-2025. This covers the 2023 trough-recovery year and the first years after the GIP deal. In 2025 that figure was flat versus 2024 (+0.0%). We assume +5% in year one because there are specific, dated reasons: HPS was included for only half of 2025 (about $900 million of revenue from July to December), and the first-half 2026 results filed in August 2026 show diluted earnings per share of $26.25, up from $19.83. We did not lift the starting level to match the first half of 2026. BlackRock's own pro forma figures show that a full year of HPS would have added only about $90 million to 2025 net income, so most of the 2026 jump comes from higher markets, which can reverse. Base case ($929 per share). After year one, earnings grow 2.5% a year through year 10. That growth comes from new client money. BlackRock has taken in net new assets every year on record, including the 2022 bear market, but fee rates keep falling as clients move to cheap index products, and revenue fell in 2022-2023 despite those inflows. So we credit less than the historical growth in fees, and we credit nothing for rising markets, buybacks or new products. Growth slows to 1.5% a year in years 11-20, and earnings then hold flat. iShares' scale, the index franchise and Aladdin's embedded client base are lasting advantages that have been in place for more than 15 years. The business is worth about $163.8 billion, or $948 per share on 172.8 million fully diluted shares. It owes about $12.3 billion of bonds at market value. Against that it has about $6.8 billion of spare cash (after the $2.2 billion of regulatory capital it must hold, cash inside consolidated funds and operating needs), half of its $4.9 billion of corporate investments, and $0.2 billion of outside ownership. Net debt is about $3.3 billion ($19 per share), which leaves about $929 per share. Bear case ($586 per share). A market fall like 2022's resets earnings to about $39 per share, 12% below the starting level. Growth then crawls at 1% a year as fees keep falling. The private-markets businesses bought with GIP and HPS fail to replace maturing funds, which is the real risk behind the $7 billion of acquired client contracts that are being amortized. Earnings are flat in years 11-20 and decline 2% a year after that. The earn-outs are settled at the high end of the share range. The business is worth about $105.7 billion ($607 per share). Net debt, with the bonds at full book value of $12.7 billion, is about $3.7 billion ($21 per share), leaving about $586. Even in this case cash generation covers interest more than ten times, and BlackRock has a $5.9 billion undrawn credit line. Debt does not threaten shareholders. Bull case ($1,269 per share). First-half 2026 strength carries into year one (+10%). Growth then runs at 5% a year through year 10, matching BlackRock's better years of fee growth from new client money (2020, 2021, 2024), with the GIP and HPS fundraising engines performing to their record. Growth eases to 3% in years 11-20 and earnings then hold flat. The business is worth about $220.9 billion ($1,289 per share), less $19 of net debt, which leaves about $1,269. What would make this wrong. Faster fee cuts on index products, a long bear market that shrinks assets for years rather than one year, or a failure of the acquired private-credit and infrastructure franchises to keep raising new funds would put value nearer the bear case. A long stretch of rising markets would push value above the bull case, but we do not count on that. One data note: BlackRock's 2021 annual report under its old registration was not available to us, so 2021 is missing from the earnings history. It does not affect the starting level.

Sales geography
Americas (majority; United States across the Northeast, Midwest, West and South, plus Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Chile); Europe, Middle East and Africa (United Kingdom, Germany, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates); Asia-Pacific (Japan, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea).
Historical growth strategy
Organic growth from steady net client inflows into iShares ETFs, index and cash products and from Aladdin technology contracts, combined with large transformative acquisitions (Merrill Lynch Investment Managers 2006, Barclays Global Investors 2009, eFront 2019, Aperio 2021, Global Infrastructure Partners 2024, Preqin and HPS 2025) paid for with a mix of cash, debt and stock. Most free cash is returned through rising dividends and share buybacks.
Chart analysis
A chartist would describe BLK as a long-term primary uptrend that has been intact since the 2009 lows, with a series of higher highs and higher lows. The 2021 peak near $970 was followed by a roughly 40% bear-market decline into the 2022 low near the low $500s. Price then built a base through 2023, and in late 2024 broke decisively above the 2021 high to new all-time highs around $1,000-1,100. The sharp but brief sell-off in April 2025 held well above the breakout zone and recovered quickly, which chartists read as former resistance turning into support. A chartist would watch the prior all-time-high area (roughly $1,000-1,100) as key support and the 200-day moving average as the trend line. A sustained break back below the old 2021 high would be read as a failed breakout.
