What the business is. Blackstone is the world's largest alternative asset manager. It had $1.27 trillion of assets under management at the end of 2025, of which $921.7 billion earned fees. It raises money from pension funds, insurers, sovereign funds and, more and more, wealthy individuals. It invests that money through real estate funds (BREP, BREIT, BREDS, BPP), private equity (corporate buyouts, secondaries, infrastructure, BXPE), credit and insurance (including BCRED and BXSL), and hedge-fund solutions. It earns in three ways. First, management fees on the capital it manages: $8.08 billion in 2025, up from $6.67 billion in 2023. Second, performance fees ("carried interest") when investments are sold at a profit: $3.66 billion realized in 2025. Third, gains on its own money invested alongside clients. About 80% of revenue comes from the Americas, 13% from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and 7% from Asia-Pacific. The fee stream is sticky. About $524 billion of assets sit in perpetual-capital vehicles with no set end date, and most of the rest is locked in funds that run ten years or more. Carried interest is lumpy and depends on being able to sell assets. How we measured earnings. Blackstone's reported operating cash flow is not a clean guide to what shareholders earn, for two reasons. First, it combines the purchases and sales of investments held on the balance sheet, including funds Blackstone must consolidate but mostly does not own. Those flows ran to nearly $20 billion of purchases in 2017. We removed the net change in money invested and kept the realized gains and realized carried interest, because those are real cash earnings. Second, the consolidated figures include profits that belong to outside investors in consolidated funds, so we took those out. We treated stock-based pay ($1.45 billion in 2025) as a real cost. We also treated the yearly cash payout of previously accrued performance pay as a real cost, because the accounts add it back as non-cash when it is booked. Every per-share figure counts both the listed common shares and the partnership units held by Blackstone's founders and employees, about 1.23 billion in total, since operating cash flow is earned for both. On this basis, owner earnings per share were $1.84 (2020), $4.21 (2021), $4.35 (2022), $2.58 (2023), $3.76 (2024) and $3.94 (2025). The swings come almost entirely from how many assets were sold in each year. Our figure is lower than the company's own "distributable earnings" because we deduct stock pay and use actual tax cost. Starting level. We use the median of 2019 to 2025: $3.76 per share. That window covers two slow years for selling assets (2020 and 2023) and two boom years (2021 and 2022), so it is a full cycle. Owner earnings grew 4.8% in 2025. The base case assumes 4.5% in the first year, which is below that rate. The first half of 2026 was stronger than the first half of 2025: revenue was $8.66 billion versus $7.00 billion, and operating cash flow was $2.93 billion versus $2.00 billion. We did not raise the starting level on the strength of one half-year. Base case, about $92 per share. Owner earnings grow 4.5% in year one and 5% a year through year ten. They then stay flat, with no further growth assumed. The growth we credit is the output of a process Blackstone has run for decades, through the 2008-09 crisis, 2020 and the 2022-23 slowdown: raising a successor fund in each strategy and adding perpetual capital. Fee-earning assets grew $91 billion in 2025 alone, and management fees rose about 21% over 2023-25. The 5% we assume is well below that pace. We gave no credit to new products, market growth or margin expansion. We keep earnings flat after year ten because of the perpetual-capital base, the long-dated fund contracts and a 40-year record of refilling funds. Net carried interest already earned on paper but not yet received was $6.74 billion at the end of 2025. We did not add it on top, because carried interest is already part of the starting level. Bear case, about $44 per share. Named risks: real estate is the largest segment, and its fee-earning assets were flat in 2025 at $279 billion. BREIT had $6.2 billion of outflows in 2025. BCRED, the private-credit fund for individual investors, limited withdrawals to 5% in June 2026 and again in September 2026 after requests near 10%. In the bear case, fund withdrawals and weak asset sales hold owner earnings near the 2023 trough of $2.60 for three years. They recover to $3.20 by year five, grow 2% a year to year ten, and then shrink 3% a year as fee pressure and competition for wealthy-investor money wear the base down. Blackstone's own debt is modest against its earnings (cash interest was $464 million in 2025), so borrowing does not drive the downside. Bull case, about $125 per share. The company's own levers work well. The level starts at the 2025 figure of $3.94 rather than the median. Year one grows 10%, supported by the first-half 2026 cash flow and the rise in accrued carried interest. Growth then runs at 8% a year through year ten, still below the historical rate of fee growth, and earnings stay flat after that. What could make this wrong. The value depends on Blackstone continuing to raise money and continuing to sell assets at a profit. Lasting withdrawals from the funds for individual investors, a long freeze in real estate sales, or damage to Blackstone's reputation with large investors would push the result toward the bear case. The accounting here is complex, with consolidated funds, carried interest and a partnership structure. Our owner-earnings figures reconcile to reported net income attributable to shareholders and unitholders within about 1% in the years we checked. Even so, the split of consolidated-fund profits between Blackstone and outside investors is an estimate we built from the filings.
