UFP Technologies makes single-use and single-patient components for medical devices - foam, plastic and adhesive-based parts used in products ranging from robotic surgery instruments to patient-positioning and wound-care equipment. It operates as a contract manufacturer, taking on manufacturing work that device makers prefer to outsource. The company has grown quickly, both by winning more business from existing device-maker customers and through a steady string of bolt-on acquisitions - recent additions include Marble Medical, an adhesive-components maker in Florida, and AJR Specialty/AJR Custom Foam, which serves the growing market for single-use patient-handling equipment. In 2022 the company also exited its older, lower-margin Molded Fiber packaging business, which had nothing to do with medical devices. Medical products now make up over 92% of sales, up from under 87% three years earlier. We measured normalized owner earnings - cash the business throws off after removing swings in receivables and inventory, treating stock-based compensation as a real cost, and setting aside enough spending to maintain (not grow) the current asset base - starting in 2023, the first clean full year after the Molded Fiber exit. Owner earnings per share came to roughly $6.67 in 2023, $8.83 in 2024, and $10.51 in 2025. We used the middle of those three years, about $8.83 per share, as our starting point, rather than the strongest and most recent year, so a single very good year does not drive the whole estimate. One accounting judgment worth flagging: a meaningful piece of recent earnings comes from adding back amortization of intangible assets created by acquisitions (about $9.8 million in 2025, roughly half of total depreciation and amortization). That add-back is the correct way to measure cash generated today, but it means part of today's earnings power depends on continuing to make acquisitions at a similar pace to replace intangible assets as they run off. We did not assume today's elevated growth simply continues forever; instead we built in a slowing growth rate over the next ten years and a modest, more conservative rate beyond that. Customer concentration is the central risk. Intuitive Surgical, maker of the da Vinci surgical robot, was about 24% of 2025 sales, and a second customer (not named in the filings) grew quickly to about 22% - together nearly half of revenue. The company states plainly in its filings that either customer choosing to manufacture in-house, or shifting business to another supplier, is a real risk to results. We also note a cybersecurity incident the company detected in February 2026, which it says has not had a material financial impact so far, and new U.S. tariffs on imported materials, which the company says were immaterial to 2025 results. We are watching both but have not built either into the base case as a certainty. Our base case assumes recent growth continues but decelerates - high-single to low-double-digit annual growth in owner earnings over the next several years, slowing to the mid-single digits by year ten, in line with the deceleration already visible in the first half of 2026. On that path we estimate the shares are worth roughly $289. Our bear case assumes one of the two large customers meaningfully cuts its orders, combined with tariff costs not being fully passed through and a recent acquisition integrating less smoothly than the company's clean track record so far - owner earnings fall by roughly a fifth in the first year, stay depressed for two to three years, and grow only slowly after that without fully recovering to today's level even a decade out; on that path we estimate the shares are worth roughly $125. Our bull case assumes the acquisition strategy keeps working at its recent pace, that demand for outsourced single-use medical components keeps growing as device makers lean further into surgical robotics and disposables, and that both large customers deepen rather than shrink their relationships with the company; on that path we estimate the shares are worth roughly $492. Because the customer-concentration risk behind our bear case is a real, filing-disclosed possibility rather than a remote one, the margin-of-safety price sits at a meaningful discount to our base-case estimate, at around $175 per share. A transparency note: a substantial share of our estimate rests on what the business earns beyond the ten years we can forecast in detail - roughly two-thirds of the base-case value and about 70% of the bull-case value. That is the natural result of valuing a young, fast-growing business at a low discount rate, and we think it is a fair reflection of the company's economics, but it also means the bull-case number in particular should be treated as more uncertain than the ten-year forecast alone would suggest.
