Revolution Medicines, Inc. (RVMD) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityHigh Updated
Business condition attached to the margin of safety FDA approval of daraxonrasib and several quarters of actual commercial sales showing positive owner earnings (cash from operations after stock compensation and capital spending).
Revolution Medicines is a clinical-stage cancer drug developer. It has no product on the market and no history of positive earnings. Its lead drug, daraxonrasib, targets RAS proteins, which drive many pancreatic cancers. Two other RAS drug candidates, zoldonrasib and RMC-9805, are behind it. What the numbers show. Cash used in operations was $897.7 million in 2025 and $741.5 million in the first six months of 2026. Net loss was $1,131.3 million in 2025 and $1,098.2 million in the first half of 2026. Stock compensation, which we count as a real cost, was $118.4 million in 2025. After stock compensation, capital spending and working-capital swings, owner earnings per share were negative in every year we measured: about -$1.90 in 2020, widening to about -$5.95 in 2025. The spending is funded by selling shares and by financing. In June 2025 the company sold Royalty Pharma a right to future royalties on daraxonrasib for $250 million. The royalty steps from 2.55% of annual net sales up to $2.0 billion down to 0.60% between $4.0 billion and $8.0 billion, and runs until 15 years after first commercial sale. The company also arranged a term loan facility of up to $750 million with a Royalty Pharma affiliate. At June 30, 2026 it held about $3.9 billion in cash and current marketable securities (about $815 million of cash and $3.12 billion of securities) against 210.9 million diluted shares. That cash funds development. It is not a source of earnings, and our method values earnings. What has happened. On April 13, 2026 the company reported that daraxonrasib beat chemotherapy in the RASolute 302 Phase 3 trial in second-line metastatic pancreatic cancer. Median overall survival was 13.2 months against 6.7 months, with a hazard ratio of 0.40. The trial met all primary and key secondary endpoints. On July 22, 2026 the FDA accepted the new drug application. The drug has Breakthrough Therapy and Orphan Drug designations and was selected for the FDA Commissioner's National Priority Voucher pilot program. The European Medicines Agency has started a phased review. These are strong results, and they are the reason the shares carry real value to many investors. Why all three cases are $0 here. We credit only earnings that are secured or that come from a process the business has already run for years. Daraxonrasib has not been approved, launched, priced or sold. No contract or order book yet supports a sales figure, and the filings we reviewed give no evidenced revenue forecast. Approval, launch pace, price, reimbursement and competition would all be assumptions about events that have not yet occurred. So in the bear, base and bull cases alike, the commercial franchise adds no counted value today, and the ongoing research spending produces losses with no earnings to offset them. The three cases do not differ because we can name no evidenced earnings stream to separate them. The bear case adds the disclosed obligations to Royalty Pharma and the term loan, but a $0 floor already reflects that nothing is being credited. This is a statement about what can be counted, not a claim the company is worthless. Cash of roughly $3.9 billion, a positive Phase 3 result and an accepted application are real. A reader who believes approval and a successful launch are likely, which is a reasonable view, is making a forecast this method deliberately does not make. It would also need a view on sales, which we cannot support from the filings. What would change our view. FDA approval, first commercial sales, and a few quarters of results showing cash earnings after stock compensation and capital spending. Then we can build cases from a real sales record and the royalty terms above. If RASolute 302 data or the FDA review turned negative, the outcome stays the same on this method. Nothing could not be reconciled from the filings, except that the most recent quarterly report was available to us only as structured financial data, so 2026 figures come from that data and the company's public announcements rather than the full text of that filing.
