Quantum (Centennial, Colorado) sells data-storage hardware and software: Scalar tape libraries, DXi backup appliances, ActiveScale object storage and StorNext file software. In the year to March 2026 it had $279.6 million of revenue: $172.4 million of product sales, $99.2 million of service and subscription fees (down from $110.7 million as older products reached end of service) and about $8 million of royalties on tape patents. This update replaces our August 31, 2026 estimate, which was prepared on a different basis, so the figures are not comparable. What the record shows. Measured as cash left for owners (operating cash flow with working-capital swings removed, stock compensation charged as a cost, and only maintenance capital spending deducted), the company was negative in 8 of the last 10 fiscal years and positive only in fiscal 2017 and 2020. In fiscal 2026 we removed a $19.9 million jump in receivables as timing. Before interest, the business was negative in each of the last five years, a cumulative shortfall of about $80 million, including roughly $38 million in fiscal 2025 and $18 million in fiscal 2026. Revenue is lumpy: sales to the top five customers were 27% of fiscal 2026 revenue, one customer exceeded 10%, and revenue fell from $422 million in fiscal 2023 to $312 million in fiscal 2024 (-26%) and $274 million in fiscal 2025; the company attributes part of the fiscal 2025 product decline to lower orders from its largest (hyperscale) customers. What changed. The operating loss narrowed from $41.7 million (fiscal 2025) to $24.5 million (fiscal 2026) as operating expenses fell from $151.5 million to $127.5 million. In the June 2026 quarter revenue rose 25.7% to $80.8 million, gross margin was 39.3% (35.3% a year earlier), expenses were $26.7 million (against $35.3 million) and the company reported an operating profit of $5.0 million against a $12.6 million loss a year earlier. Operating cash flow was only +$0.9 million, and one quarter does not set our view of the earnings level. In June 2026 the company raised $94.7 million (10.6 million shares), repaid the $56.0 million term loan, and converted the $57.2 million convertible note into shares, leaving no borrowings, $54.4 million of cash and about 39.4 million shares. The going-concern doubt that existed before this financing has been removed. Past Nasdaq deficiency notices (2023 to 2025) were all cured. The auditors issued an adverse opinion on internal controls, prior financial reports were restated, and a shareholder class action and a derivative suit (filed 2025) are pending; we model none of their outcomes. How we set the earnings level. The five-year median for the business before interest is a loss of about $17 million a year, but that record is from the old cost base and debt load. We instead rebuild the level from today's cost base, which is the main judgement in this analysis and the reason our confidence is low. Owner earnings improved by $26.8 million in fiscal 2026 (from -$50.4 million to -$23.7 million; before interest, -$38.5 million to -$18.5 million). Our base case assumes a further improvement of about $23 million in year one, to roughly +$5 million before interest. The dated reason is that the lower expense level is already in the reported numbers: expenses fell $24 million in fiscal 2026 and were $26.7 million in the June 2026 quarter against $35.3 million a year earlier. Debt and claims. We count $20.0 million of the cash as needed to run the business, leaving $34.4 million as excess. Against it we deduct a warrant held by Dialectic (the former convertible-note holder and term lender) that can require the company to repurchase it for $20 million (from September 2030, or on a change of control) and a small related put, together about $16.5 million in today's terms. Net, that is about $17.9 million ($0.46 per share). Each case below is the business's value plus that figure. Base case: $1.62 per share. We hold revenue at $296 million (the last four quarters), gross margin at 37.8% and operating expenses at $110 million (the June-quarter pace was $107 million annualized). With about $3 million a year of non-cash charges net of capital spending (history has ranged from roughly zero to $13 million), that is about $5 million a year of cash for 10 years, then fading to zero over the following 10 years, because beyond a decade we cannot name or evidence what replaces today's products. The business is worth about $46 million, there is no debt, and with $17.9 million of net cash equity is about $63.9 million. We credit the cost cuts because they are already done; we give no credit for further growth, higher margins or new hyperscale orders. The result is very sensitive: $10 million more or less revenue moves the value by about $0.90 per share, and if revenue simply stayed at fiscal 2026's $280 million the business would lose money and be worth less than its net cash. Bear case: $0.00. Revenue falls 26% to $207 million, as it did from fiscal 2023 to 2024, gross margin drops to 35% (fiscal 2023 was 34%), and management cuts expenses to $100 million, $92 million, $85 million and $80 million over four years. Cash flow before lenders is about -$25 million, -$17 million, -$10 million and -$5 million, and we count nothing after year four (we assume further restructuring ends the losses and credit no value beyond that). The business is worth about -$50 million, there is no debt, and with $17.9 million of net cash the equity comes to about -$32 million (-$0.80 per share): the cash would run out and new capital would be needed on dilutive terms or in a restructuring. Shareholders' exposure is limited to the shares themselves, so we show $0.00. Bull case: $8.83. Revenue returns to $380 million, a level reached in fiscal 2022 ($383 million) and exceeded in fiscal 2023, with gross margin of 39.5% (the June quarter was 39.3%; fiscal 2024 and 2025 were about 40%) and expenses of $118 million. Cash flow is about $35 million a year for 10 years, then fades over 10 more; the business is worth about $330 million and equity about $348 million. How we arrived at the margin-of-safety price of $0.60. We are not confident of the earnings level: it was negative in most of the last decade, and the answer turns on whether revenue holds near $290 million or more. The worst plausible outcome is another fall in orders while the company still carries $76.8 million of non-cancelable inventory purchase commitments, which would consume most of the cash within two to three years; having no borrowings means no lender can force the issue, but the equity would likely be diluted or lost. If we are wrong about revenue (it stays near $280 million) or costs (they drift back to $115 million), the shares are worth about their net cash, $0.45 or less. The company pays no dividend, so the price assumes a three-to-four-year holding period for retained cash flow to show up. At $0.60 the price is only about $0.14 above the net cash, and for a 20% annual return the shares would need to be worth about $1.04 in three years, against roughly $1.9 if the base case plays out. The margin-of-safety price is not higher because the margin for error on revenue is thin.

Sales geography
United States (the Americas were 52.5% of fiscal 2026 revenue, with Americas sales outside the United States not significant); Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific make up the remaining roughly 47.5%. Royalty revenue is not allocated to a region.
Historical growth strategy
Quantum has not grown steadily. It has sold storage systems and software to large enterprise, media and hyperscale customers, added small tuck-in technology acquisitions (cash acquisitions of $2.0 million in fiscal 2020 and $2.7 million in fiscal 2021), and shifted its offering toward subscription licensing and tape sold to hyperscalers. Operations and acquisitions have been funded mainly by debt and stock sales, with the share count expanded repeatedly and a 1-for-20 reverse split in September 2025; revenue has fallen from about $403 million (fiscal 2020) to about $280 million (fiscal 2026).
Chart analysis
A chartist would see a stock that has gone nearly vertical. After a long period of decline that ended in a 1-for-20 reverse split in September 2025, the shares bottomed near $11.78 on August 10, 2026 and gapped up about 65% the next day. They then built a base in the $22 to $24 range through September and broke out to new highs, closing near $34.50 on October 2, 2026, with higher highs and higher lows. That is a textbook uptrend with a breakout from consolidation, and the $22 to $24 base is the first support. The warning signs are that the price is far above its longer-term averages (overbought) and the move is so steep that a sharp pullback toward the base, or even the August gap area, would be normal. Below that base, chart support is thin because there is little trading history at those levels since the gap.
