IDT is a diversified communications and payments holding company built around a large, shrinking core — international prepaid calling and wholesale carrier services (branded BOSS Revolution), still about 70% of revenue — alongside three smaller units that are growing quickly and, in two cases, have only recently turned profitable: National Retail Solutions (point-of-sale terminals and advertising/data services for independent retailers), a Fintech unit built around the BOSS Money international remittance app, and net2phone, a cloud business-phone (UCaaS) provider. IDT has a long history of spinning off businesses once they matured (Genie Energy, Straight Path Communications, Zedge, Rafael Holdings, and the CTM Media/IDW Media spinoff), so today's mix reflects what remains after those separations. There is no announced or pending spinoff today, though management has said it periodically considers them. We build owner earnings from operating cash flow: net income plus depreciation and all other non-cash charges, less the swings in working capital (including large but temporary movements in customer deposits at IDT's small Gibraltar-licensed bank), less stock compensation, less the capital expenditure needed just to maintain the existing business (separated from the smaller slice of capex spent on growth). Because net2phone and National Retail Solutions have minority owners, we also remove the portion of earnings that belongs to those minority holders so the result reflects what is available to IDT's own common shareholders. Owner earnings per share attributable to common stockholders have moved from roughly $0.18–$0.20 in the 2017–2019 period, to about $0.96 in the pandemic-disrupted 2020 fiscal year, to a steadily improving $2.00–$2.55 from fiscal 2021 through 2024, to about $4.04 in fiscal 2025. The most recent year's jump was aided by a favorable non-cash tax item of roughly $27 million that is unlikely to repeat every year, but it also reflects real improvement: combined operating income across the four segments rose about 55% as National Retail Solutions kept growing, and the Fintech unit swung from a loss to a solid profit for the first time. Because the trailing year's growth rate isn't representative on its own, we anchor the valuation on the median of the last six fiscal years (2020–2025) — about $2.34 per share — a window chosen because it starts after the last major spinoff (Rafael Holdings' predecessor businesses were already gone, and IDW Media, the final piece, separated in fiscal 2020) and because it includes both a weak year and the recent acceleration rather than cherry-picking only the good years. Our base case assumes owner earnings grow a conservative 8% in the first year — well below the roughly 60% actual growth just reported — stepping down to about 6% by the middle years and 4% by year ten, reflecting continued erosion in the legacy calling business partly offset by National Retail Solutions, BOSS Money, and net2phone continuing to scale. Beyond the ten-year forecast, we split the year-ten earnings level into two pieces: a shrinking piece tied to the legacy calling business, which we assume keeps fading toward zero over roughly fifteen more years as messaging apps and competing payment rails continue to displace it, and a larger, more durable piece tied to the three growth units, which we treat as able to sustain only very modest (roughly 1.5%) growth indefinitely, reflecting that their reinvestment needs are already covered inside owner earnings. On this basis, the years beyond the explicit ten-year forecast still make up roughly 60% of the total value — a meaningful share investors should be aware of, though it stays within a sane range (about 16–17 times year-ten owner earnings) rather than assuming indefinite high growth. Our bear case assumes the legacy calling business declines faster than history (roughly 8% a year for several years before settling into a slower decline) while the newer units' growth stalls under competition from far larger, better-capitalized payments and telecom rivals, and gets no credit for growing indefinitely beyond year ten. Our bull case assumes National Retail Solutions, BOSS Money, and net2phone keep compounding at a strong pace for several more years and the legacy business erodes only modestly, aided by continued cost discipline. IDT carries essentially no net debt — it draws and repays its revolving credit facility within the same year — so leverage is not a meaningful risk factor here; the width of our range instead reflects genuine uncertainty about whether the newer, smaller businesses can keep scaling against much larger competitors. Putting these together, we estimate the shares are worth roughly $18.50 in a bad outcome, about $61.50 in our central case, and as much as $91 if the growth units keep compounding. Given how much of the central estimate depends on execution in businesses that are still relatively young, the margin-of-safety price sits meaningfully below our central estimate — around $31 a share — to build in a margin of safety. One accounting judgment worth noting: IDT adopted a new cash-flow presentation rule partway through the period we studied, which moved changes in restricted cash out of operating cash flow starting with fiscal 2019; we used each year's own reported figures on a consistent basis, which produced an internally consistent series, but it means the earliest year in our dataset (fiscal 2016) is on a very slightly different basis than the rest. This did not meaningfully affect the results.
