abrdn Precious Metals Basket ETF Trust (GLTR) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexitySimple Updated
This is a grantor trust that holds physical gold, silver, platinum and palladium bullion and issues shares backed by that metal. It has no operations, earns no income and pays no dividends. Its only expense is a sponsor fee of 0.60% a year (about $9.5 million in 2025), which is paid out of the metal held, so each share represents a slightly smaller amount of metal over time. Because the trust owns nothing except the bullion, an earnings-based valuation does not apply. We value each share at its net asset value, the market value of the metal behind it. The most recent reported figure is $181.11 per share at June 30, 2026 (net assets of about $2.46 billion on roughly 13.6 million shares), taken from the latest quarterly report. That compares with $213.71 at March 31, 2026 and $206.19 at December 31, 2025, so the net asset value per share fell about 15% between year-end and June 30, 2026. We use the same figure for the bear, base and bull cases, because there is no business driver we can name and evidence that would move value away from the metal held; any forecast of metal prices would be speculation rather than valuation. The figure is a snapshot and changes with metal prices. What would make this wrong: value moves with the prices of the four metals, so any change since June 30 changes the true worth per share, and the fee slowly erodes the metal behind each share. The margin-of-safety price is not set above zero, because the trust's value depends on metal prices rather than on a business that generates cash for its owners.
