AIRGAIN INC (AIRG) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$1.00 ComplexityAverage Updated
-$1.65 $2.55
bear -$1.65 base -$0.91 bull $2.55 margin of safety $1.00 market price* $4.05
Business condition attached to the margin of safety At least two consecutive quarters in which operating cash flow, excluding working-capital swings and one-time items such as Employee Retention Credit refunds, exceeds stock-based compensation plus capital spending.
What the business is. Airgain, based in San Diego, designs antennas and wireless connectivity products. It sells into three markets. Consumer (2025 sales $26.1M) is embedded antennas for Wi-Fi routers, broadband gateways and fixed-wireless devices, mostly sold to contract manufacturers in China and Taiwan that build equipment for large North American cable and broadband operators. Enterprise ($22.6M) is NimbeLink embedded cellular modems (acquired in 2021), asset trackers, industrial antennas and the new Lighthouse 5G smart repeater. Automotive ($3.1M) is fleet antennas and the AC-Fleet roof-mounted 5G vehicle gateway. Manufacturing is outsourced, and gross margin runs about 43%. Customers are concentrated: three customers made up 60% of 2025 sales, and the largest alone was 29%. What it has actually earned. We measure owner earnings as operating cash flow, with working-capital swings removed, stock compensation charged as the real cost it is, and only the capital spending needed to maintain the business deducted. On that basis Airgain has not earned money in any year since 2019. It lost roughly $2.8M in 2020, $7.3M in 2021, $5.6M in 2022, $9.1M in 2023, $5.1M in 2024 and $2.9M in 2025. The 2025 figure includes a one-time $2.1M net payroll-tax refund (the Employee Retention Credit for 2020-2021 wages). Without it, 2025 was about a $5.0M loss, the same as 2024. The losses held at every sales level: revenue was $75.9M in 2022 and $60.6M in 2024, and owner earnings were still negative both times. Before the NimbeLink acquisition, the antenna-only company earned a small profit (about $1.9M in 2017 and $0.6M in 2019). Our starting point is the median of 2021-2025, the years since the business took its current shape: a loss of about $0.55 per share, or roughly $5.5M a year. The first half of 2026 gave no sign of a turn. Revenue was flat at $25.2M, the six-month loss was about $3.0M, and R&D spending crept back up after being cut in 2025. We treat the $2.0M 2022 NimbeLink earn-out payment as part of the purchase price, not an operating cost. We added back acquired-intangible amortization, which is nearly finished. That add-back changes reported profit but not cash earnings, so it doesn't affect our figures. The cases. We discount at a flat 6%. Airgain has no debt, about $7.6M of cash, and roughly $15.7M of tangible net assets. It has been funding its losses by selling shares through an at-the-market program ($4.1M in 2024, and share count up from 12.2M to 13.1M in the first seven months of 2026). Base case: about -$0.91 per share. Consumer demand keeps growing from the Wi-Fi 7 upgrade cycle. Consumer sales rose 20% in 2025, backed by multi-million-dollar Wi-Fi 7 awards from tier-one cable operators and a November 2025 design win for a fiber gateway. Enterprise and automotive customers work through the excess inventory that management says may last into the second half of 2026. The annual loss narrows from about $5.5M in 2026 to break-even by 2032 if spending is held. Nothing in the record shows the business earning a meaningful profit after that, so we credit it only with the realizable value of its net assets, about $6.6M, at the end of the period. The losses along the way are worth more than what the company owns today. That is why the figure is negative even though there is no debt. Bear case: about -$1.65 per share. Losses keep running at $5.5M to $7M a year for five more years, as they have for the past six. The larger figures reflect losing a large share of business from the biggest customer (29% of sales), a concentration risk the company discloses. The business is then sold or wound down for its working capital. Bull case: about $2.55 per share. Everything the company can point to goes well. Wi-Fi 7 consumer growth continues, enterprise and automotive return to 2024 levels (about $39M combined, against $25.7M in 2025), and Lighthouse begins to sell in modest volume. Lighthouse received FCC certification in September 2025, signed its first U.S. system-integrator partnership in December 2025, and is in trials including one with a tier-one U.S. carrier. With spending held near 2025 levels, sales in the low $70M range would produce about $3.5M-$4M a year of owner earnings from 2029. We credit that for 25 years in total, based on a design-win antenna business that has operated for three decades. We did not count Lighthouse or AC-Fleet in the base case because neither has a signed volume contract yet. What the negative numbers mean. A share can't trade below zero, and with no debt, shareholders can't owe money. The negative figures mean the company's current plan uses more value than it owns. Existing shareholders would bear that mostly through dilution as the company keeps selling stock to cover losses. The company's filing states that its cash covers at least the next 12 months. The margin-of-safety price. Price alone is not enough here. The margin-of-safety price assumes the losses have actually stopped first: at least two straight quarters in which cash earnings, after stock compensation and capital spending and excluding one-time refunds, are positive. If that happens, a business earning a steady $2M-$2.5M a year would be worth about $2.20 per share. Because Airgain is very small and depends on a few customers, the margin of safety is set at more than half, so the margin-of-safety price under that condition is $1.00. What would prove this wrong. If Lighthouse or AC-Fleet turns into real carrier or fleet contracts, or if Wi-Fi 7 volumes lift sales back above $65M while spending stays at 2025 levels, the business would earn money and be worth far more than the base case. If the largest customer's business falls away, the bear case comes quickly.
