Business condition attached to the margin of safety Owner earnings (cash from operations less the working-capital swing, less stock compensation, less maintenance capital spending) turning and staying positive for at least two consecutive quarters -- not just one strong quarter, since the 2024 recovery reversed within a year. Confirmation should include the top customer's share of revenue stabilizing or declining from its current ~34%, not continuing to rise.
Impinj makes the chips, readers and software behind the RAIN RFID tags increasingly sewn into clothing tags and, more recently, into general-merchandise, food and supply-chain labels so retailers can track inventory item by item. It does not own factories: chips are made by outside foundries under wafer-purchase commitments, and the tags themselves are converted mostly by partners in Asia before being sold on through distributors. The headline numbers look better than the cash the business actually throws off. Impinj pays a large and recurring share of its workforce in stock rather than cash -- roughly 15% of revenue every year for the last three years -- and that dilution is a real cost to existing shareholders even though accounting profit adds it back. Once that cost, the swings in inventory and receivables, and the ongoing capital spending needed just to keep pace (as opposed to spending aimed at growing into new markets) are all accounted for, the picture is far choppier than revenue growth alone suggests: over the last six years -- covering the 2020 pandemic dip, the 2021-2022 boom, a sharp 2023 correction, a strong 2024 recovery and a softer 2025 -- underlying owner earnings per share came out negative in five of six years, with only 2024 clearly positive. The 2023 dip is worth explaining: full-year revenue actually grew that year, but Impinj kept building inventory under its foundry commitments while distributors and retailers were still working down stock they had over-ordered during the 2021-2022 chip shortage, so cash flow from operations swung to roughly negative $49 million even as sales rose. The typical (median) year over this stretch produced owner earnings of about negative $1.39 per share -- the level we treat as representing the business's normal earning power today, before layering on a growth story. Recent data give some reason for cautious optimism: revenue in the first half of 2026 grew again versus a year earlier (roughly 6-11%, accelerating in the second quarter), after the outright decline seen in full-year 2025. We used that as the basis for assuming next year is a stabilization rather than a further slide, rather than assuming a rebound with no evidence behind it. Our three cases: Bear case ($1.22/share): a repeat of the 2022-2023 pattern -- demand air-pocket, further softening in the customer base (Europe/Middle East/Africa revenue already fell 43% in 2025), and continued heavy reliance on one large distribution partner (about 34% of 2025 revenue, up from 28% the year before) -- keeps owner earnings negative for several more years before a slow grind back toward roughly breakeven by year ten. Against roughly $287 million of convertible notes coming due in 2027 and 2029 and a comparatively thin cash balance, a stretch of losses like this would likely require issuing more shares to get through it, which is reflected in the low per-share value here. Base case ($24.40/share): the new end markets Impinj already sells into today -- general merchandise, food, and supply-chain/logistics tagging, alongside its core apparel business -- keep growing revenue at a high-single-digit pace, and owner earnings climb back toward and modestly above the 2024 peak over the next several years, then grow slowly and are assumed to hold near that level over the long run. We stress-tested this against the fact that the top-customer concentration has been rising, not falling, even as management points to diversification -- a reason for real caution that keeps this case closer to the middle of the range rather than the upper end. Bull case ($55.05/share): revenue growth resumes at the high-teens pace the business actually delivered in three of the past four years, as the newer end markets scale faster and operating leverage (already demonstrated in the swing from 2023 to 2024) compounds further. Given how much of the last six years came out negative on this basis, and the size of the debt load relative to the cash on hand, the margin-of-safety price carries a large discount to the base-case estimate -- it is $9 per share -- and greater confidence would require owner earnings turning positive for more than one quarter, and customer concentration to stop rising.

Sales geography
Impinj sells globally through OEMs, distributors, systems integrators and value-added resellers rather than directly to end brands, so revenue is reported by the location of that partner, not the end user. On that basis, Asia Pacific was the largest region in 2025 at $209.9 million (58% of revenue), reflecting where RFID inlay and tag converters are concentrated rather than end-market demand; Americas was $124.9 million (35%), of which the United States was $75.1 million and Mexico $41.3 million; Europe, Middle East and Africa was $26.2 million (7%), down sharply from $46.4 million in 2024. End-market demand is led by North American and European retail apparel and general-merchandise brands, with a single customer (a large distributor/converter) representing about 34% of 2025 revenue, up from 28% in 2024.
