Ironwood earns its money from one product. It shares the U.S. profit on LINZESS (linaclotide, for irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic constipation) 50/50 with AbbVie; that share was $289 million of $296 million revenue in 2025. Its second asset, apraglutide for short bowel syndrome, needs a new Phase III trial (STARS-2, planned to start in the second quarter of 2026) after the FDA said the first trial delivered lower drug exposure than planned. We give it no value: nothing about it is approved or secured. Earning power. We measure owner earnings as operating cash flow, less working-capital swings, less stock compensation, less maintenance capex (tiny for this business). Per share that was about $0.86 (2020), $1.35 (2021), $1.31 (2022), $0.90 (2023), $0.46 (2024) and $0.43 (2025). The 2023 net loss of $1.0 billion was a non-cash write-off of purchased research from the VectivBio acquisition and does not affect these figures. Two cautions: (1) reported cash flow has been flattered by large deferred-tax add-backs ($41 million in 2025, $68 million in 2024) because of tax-loss carryforwards; only about $190 million of U.S. federal losses remain, so cash taxes will rise over the next couple of years, and we let that reduce our path rather than the starting level; (2) the median of 2020-2025 (about $0.88) describes a period with a larger sales force and no list-price cut, so we do not treat it as the going-forward level. Latest results. Trailing owner-earnings growth in 2025 was about -7%. For 2026 we assume a large rebound to about $0.75 per share, and here is the reason: first-half 2026 revenue was $219.5 million versus $126.4 million a year earlier, after 2025 restructuring cut SG&A by $62 million and the LINZESS list price was lowered effective January 1, 2026, removing inflation-linked rebates. Our figure is well below what the first half annualizes to, because fourth-quarter 2025 revenue was only $47.7 million and quarters have been lumpy. What limits the story. (a) Medicare price setting: HHS set LINZESS's maximum fair price at $136 per 30-day supply, effective January 1, 2027, which management called in line with its expectations. (b) Generics: settlements with five generic makers allow generic LINZESS as early as March 2029. (c) Debt: $385 million drawn on the revolving credit facility, plus $200 million of convertible notes that matured in June 2026, against a stockholders' deficit. Base case: about $0.75 in 2026, $0.60 in 2027 (Medicare price plus rising cash taxes), $0.55 in 2028, about $0.30 in 2029 as generics arrive, and $0.10 and $0.05 in 2030-31 from residual brand sales. Nothing after that is credited, because there is no approved successor product or contract to point to. Value: about $1.80 per share. Bull case: the first-half 2026 run rate largely holds ($1.20, then about $1.00 and $0.95 in 2027-28), generic entry slips past early 2029 so that 2029 is about $0.60, and a fading tail follows to 2032. Value: about $3.30. No apraglutide success is assumed. Bear case: another fourth-quarter-2025-style price/inventory reset, so 2026's second half is about $0.20, followed by $0.30, $0.20 and $0.05 as Medicare pricing, higher refinancing costs and generics bite. The $385 million revolver is roughly $2.30 per share, more than this stream would cover, so in this outcome equity is worth little (about $0.30) even before considering repayment risk. What would make this wrong: a delayed or blocked generic launch, a successful STARS-2 result with a viable NDA, or, on the downside, a repeat of the 2025 net-price erosion. We could not read the second-quarter 2026 narrative, so the 2026 rebound rests on reported figures alone.
