A10 Networks sells application delivery and network security products, mostly to telecom and internet service providers (60% of 2025 revenue) and to large enterprises (40%). Revenue of $290.6 million in 2025 was 58% products (hardware and software licenses) and 42% support and subscription services, which are recognised over contract terms of typically one year and up to seven years. Deferred revenue of $142.8 million at the end of 2025 shows how much of that service revenue is already paid for. The company pays a quarterly dividend of $0.06 a share and carries no credit facility that we could find in its latest annual filing. How we measured earnings. We start from operating cash flow, remove the swings in receivables, inventory, payables and deferred revenue, and then deduct stock compensation as a real cost and the part of capital spending needed to keep the business running. On that basis owner earnings per share were negative from 2016 to 2019 (an unprofitable, restructuring era) and positive from 2020: $0.34, $0.45, $0.58, $0.50, $0.65 and $0.55 for 2020 to 2025. We treat 2020 onward as the business as it exists today and use the median of those six years, about $0.53 a share (roughly $39 million), as the earnings level. The 2021 reported net income of $94.9 million included a one-off $64.2 million tax benefit, which does not appear in cash flow and does not affect this figure. Owner earnings per share fell about 15% in 2025 from 2024 ($0.55 versus $0.65) because capital spending rose to $20.1 million from $12.3 million and stock compensation to $20.0 million from $17.0 million, even though revenue grew 11%. Our starting level sits about 5% below 2025 and is a normalised level, not a forecast; we do not assume the decline reverses. The cash held by the company is not added separately because the interest it earns ($11.6 million in 2025) is already inside operating cash flow. Base case, about $4.96 a share. Owner earnings stay flat at about $0.53 a share for ten years and then fade steadily to zero over the following ten. We give no credit for growth. The one thing in the bag is the installed base: services revenue of about $123 million a year on contracts already signed, and a record of positive owner earnings in each of the six years since 2020, including the weaker 2023. Product growth, new markets and buybacks are left out because none is contracted and product sales are lumpy. The fade reflects that the products are hardware and software with limited lives and nothing we can name that guarantees replacement beyond the installed base. Bear case, about $2.74 a share. One end-customer supplied 26% of 2025 revenue, up from 15% in 2024 and 14% in 2023, and the ten largest end-customers supplied 40%. Product revenue in Asia Pacific and Japan already fell 19% in 2025. In the bear case the 2025 surge from the largest customer reverses, stock compensation keeps rising (it was $13.8 million in the first half of 2026 against $10.4 million a year earlier) and owner earnings fall to the 2020 level of $0.34 a share for eight years, then fade to zero over the next eight. Bull case, about $6.87 a share. Owner earnings hold at the 2024 level of $0.65 a share for twelve years, backed by the growth in US service provider demand seen in 2025 (United States revenue up 36%) and first-half 2026 revenue of $155.1 million, up about 14.5% on the prior year, then fade to zero over the next twelve. We do not credit growth beyond that level. Margin-of-safety price. The margin-of-safety price is about $3.00 a share, roughly 40% below the base case and close to the bear case. That margin reflects heavy reliance on a few customers, rising stock compensation, and a product line that depends on continued technology relevance. What could make this wrong. First-half 2026 operating cash flow was $31.3 million versus $39.4 million a year earlier despite higher revenue, so the earnings level may be lower than our median if that persists; if it does, the bear case becomes more relevant. Conversely, if the largest customer's spending proves durable and stock compensation stabilises, owner earnings could exceed our bull level. The 2025 filing also refers to a strategic-alternatives review first announced in July 2019; we found no pending transaction and did not value one.
