AMC Networks owns cable channels (AMC, We TV, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV) and streaming services (AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder and others, about 10.4 million streaming subscribers at the end of 2025). It earns money from carriage fees paid by cable and satellite distributors, advertising, streaming subscriptions and licensing of shows such as The Walking Dead universe. The core problem is that the big linear TV business is shrinking. In 2025 revenue fell 4.5% to $2.31 billion. Domestic affiliate revenue fell 12.5% and advertising fell 15.1% as U.S. subscribers to AMC dropped from 59.8 million to 54.6 million. Streaming revenue rose 12.3% to $677 million, but that came from price increases while subscribers were flat at 10.4 million. In the first half of 2026 revenue was down about 5.7% again and operating cash flow was $125 million versus $212 million a year earlier. How we measure earnings: we start from operating cash flow, remove swings in receivables, payables and prepaid items, and deduct stock compensation and the capital spending needed to keep operating. Spending on programming is treated as a real, ongoing cost of the business. That spend swung a lot: it exceeded programming amortization by about $388 million in 2021 and $339 million in 2022, and was below it in 2025. Because of this, owner earnings per share have been erratic ($9.51 in 2020, -$0.25 in 2021, $1.45 in 2022, $5.98 in 2023, $4.17 in 2024, $2.45 in 2025). We use the 2021-2025 window, which reflects the streaming-era business, and its median of about $139 million a year (the 2025 level). Pre-2021 years reflect a larger linear business and are not used. The 2025 per-share figure uses 56.6 million diluted shares, which include shares that would arise if the 4.25% convertible notes were converted; earlier years used about 44 million. Base case: owner earnings of about $125 million next year (a 10% step down, because 2025 owner earnings already fell 25% and first-half 2026 cash flow is running well below last year), then declining about 8% a year. That reflects the demonstrated shrinkage of affiliate subscribers (about 9% a year) and advertising, partly offset by streaming price increases. We do not credit growth in streaming subscribers, new shows, or a turnaround, because none of that is secured or has been sustained. The decline is carried forward rather than faded to a floor, because we can identify nothing that stops it. Discounted at 6%, this is worth about $15.7 per share. Bear case: owner earnings fall to about $104 million next year, then decline 12% a year, matching the 2025 rate of decline in affiliate revenue. In addition, we deduct roughly $200 million for the pending MFN Litigation, in which The Walking Dead profit participants claim damages above $200 million; the company's motion for summary judgment was filed in November 2025 and no ruling is disclosed. The company also carries about $1.8 billion of debt, including about $1.3 billion of 2029 maturities (10.25% secured notes, 4.25% unsecured notes and the 4.25% convertible notes), so a leveraged, shrinking business has a weaker downside. The bear case is worth about $7.0 per share. Refinancing terms in 2029 could not be quantified from the filings and are not modeled beyond the current interest burden already in cash flow. Bull case: owner earnings hold at about $139 million next year and decline only 5% a year afterward, if streaming price increases keep offsetting linear declines as they did in 2024 and 2025, and the litigation is dismissed. That is worth about $22.3 per share. The margin-of-safety price is $6.00, below the bear value, because the business is shrinking, heavily indebted and has a large open legal claim. What would make this wrong: streaming subscribers growing (not just pricing), a large resolved legal claim, or content spending staying well below amortization for several years, which would raise cash flow. Note that no balance-sheet cash or debt is added or subtracted; leverage is captured in the bear case only.
