Acorn Energy is a holding company whose only business is OmniMetrix, which sells wireless monitoring units for standby generators (made by Caterpillar, Kohler, Generac, Cummins and others) and for the cathodic-protection systems that stop pipelines corroding, then charges an annual monitoring subscription on each connected unit. Revenue was $11.5 million in 2025: $5.6 million of monitoring at a 94% gross margin, renewing historically above 90%, and $5.9 million of hardware at about 60%. There is no debt and $4.5 million of cash at June 30, 2026. Earnings record. We measure owner earnings as operating cash flow with working-capital swings removed, less stock compensation and the capital spending needed to stand still. On that basis the business lost money every year from 2016 to 2022, earned about $0.2 million in 2023, $2.0 million in 2024 and $2.3 million in 2025 ($0.79 and $0.89 a share). Two features of the recent figures matter. First, the large reported profits of 2024 and 2025 include non-cash tax benefits from reversing a reserve against old losses; we ignore those. Accumulated tax losses should keep cash taxes low for roughly a decade, and we charge a full tax rate after that. Second, and more important, 2024-2025 were lifted by a one-off contract to equip 5,000-10,000 cell-tower backup generators: $1.6 million and $2.3 million of hardware revenue, all of it now shipped. Without it, the 2025 earnings would have been roughly $0.9 million rather than $2.3 million. The first half of 2026 confirms this: revenue fell to $4.7 million from $6.6 million and operating profit to $0.25 million from $1.55 million. We therefore do not anchor on the 2024-2025 average. We start from about $0.8 million a year ($0.31 a share), which is the recurring monitoring base plus ordinary hardware sales, less the cost of the listed parent company. Base case: $6.24 a share. Business earnings start near $0.8 million and grow 5% a year for ten years, to about $1.2 million, held for another ten and then faded out. That growth comes only from the proven mechanism: monitoring revenue rose 7% in 2024 and 22% in 2025 as each hardware sale added a new subscription. We left out the AIO software distribution deal signed in early 2026, because management itself expects little near-term revenue, and we left out any repeat of the cell-tower contract. The business is worth about $12.4 million ($4.90 a share). With no debt to subtract and about $3.4 million of cash beyond operating needs, that comes to $6.24. Bear case: $3.04 a share. Demand for generator monitoring depends on other companies' installation activity, and the business has already been through a bad period: in 2022 the shutdown of 3G networks cut off monitored connections and monitoring revenue fell. The bear case assumes a downturn of that kind lasting two years, with earnings falling to about $0.2 million, followed by a recovery to only $0.55 million and no growth, then fading. The business is worth $4.3 million ($1.71 a share) plus the same net cash; nothing is owed. Bull case: $8.13 a share. Monitoring keeps compounding at 8% as connections grow the way they did in 2025, and margins hold at today's level. The business reaches about $1.9 million of earnings by year ten and is worth $17.2 million ($6.79 a share), plus net cash. Margin of safety price: $3.00. How sure are we of the earnings level? Only moderately: the business has had two strong years, but both depended on one contract that is finished, and the first half of 2026 is well below them. The worst plausible outcome is losing the subscriber base to the generator makers' own monitoring products, or to a network change like the 3G shutdown. The business would survive that structurally because it has no debt and holds cash, but the shares would fall toward cash value of about $1.35. If we are wrong on growth (monitoring grows 0-2% rather than 5%) and the parent's overhead stays high, the shares are worth roughly $4. The company pays no dividend, so nothing is paid over the holding period. The margin-of-safety price of $3.00 is about the bear-case value, and only a modest climb toward the base case over three to four years is needed to imply a 20% annual return, while the cash on hand cushions the outcome if the bear case arrives. The margin-of-safety price is not set higher, because the base case itself is only a few dollars above that price and the recent trend is down. Previous figures were built on a different basis and are not comparable; what changed in the business is that the cell-tower hardware contract has ended and 2026 results show the earnings without it. The shares are very thinly traded.

Sales geography
United States (all regions, with national accounts such as cell-tower operators), Canada, Mexico
Historical growth strategy
Organic: sells remote-monitoring hardware for standby generators and pipeline cathodic-protection systems through generator dealers, OEM relationships and national accounts, then grows a high-margin recurring monitoring subscription base on top of the installed units; periodically wins large single contracts (cell-tower backup generators) and has added distribution partnerships (AIO) rather than acquisitions. Historically shrank to this single business by selling its other holdings (DSIT).
Chart analysis
A chartist would describe a long basing pattern: years of sub-dollar trading (pre reverse split) and a flat range, followed by a sharp breakout in 2024 as profitability arrived and a higher plateau through 2025. Since then the stock has rolled over from its highs as 2026 results slowed; the prior breakout zone is the support level they would watch, and a reclaim of the 2025 highs would be needed to resume the uptrend.
