ACCO Brands sells office, school and computer-accessory products under names such as Swingline, Mead, Five Star, Kensington and, in gaming accessories, PowerA and (acquired in early 2026) EPOS. Roughly 58% of 2025 sales were in the Americas and the rest in Europe, Australia and elsewhere. Amazon is the largest customer at 10% of 2025 sales ($158.1 million). Sales peaked at $2,025 million in 2021 and have fallen every year since, to $1,525 million in 2025 (down 8.5%, with volume down 9.7%, partly from customers cancelling or delaying orders over tariffs). The company wrote off $353 million of goodwill and brand value in 2022-2024, and it still books about $46 million a year of intangible amortization. We add that non-cash cost back, as the cash is long spent, and we carry the shrinking of the underlying brands in the sales decline we assume rather than in the earnings level. What the business earns. We measure the cash the business produces before paying its lenders: operating cash flow, with swings in receivables, inventory and payables removed, less stock compensation, less the capital spending needed to stand still, plus the cash interest paid. Per share that was $0.87 in 2020, $2.52 in 2021, $1.09 in 2022, $1.79 in 2023, $1.08 in 2024 and $0.69 in 2025. We anchor on the 2020-2025 median of $1.09 per share (about $104 million a year), a window that spans the pandemic trough and the 2021 peak. One judgement matters a great deal: we do not strip out the yearly outflows for accrued restructuring, pension, incentive and tax payments. They were cash drains of $62-68 million in each of 2022, 2024 and 2025 and about $32 million a year on average over ten years, so we treat them as a real cost of running this business. Treating them as timing noise would lift the value of the shares several-fold. Near-term path. Last year's cash flow per share fell 36%. We assume the next twelve months come in at about $96.5 million, 7% below the anchor but well above 2025's $64.7 million. The dated reasons: the first half of 2026 (company results release of July 30, 2026) showed net income of $33.5 million versus $16.0 million a year earlier, operating cash flow before trade working capital about $18 million better, and comparable sales down only 2.5% against 9.3% in 2025. The cost program (about $100 million of annual savings targeted by end-2026, more than $60 million already realized) is under way. We give no credit for growth. From there the base case lets cash flow fall 4.5% a year, roughly midway between the first-half 2026 comparable-sales decline (2.5%) and the 6.9% average annual sales decline of 2021-2025, because paper-based categories keep shrinking and nothing evidenced reverses that. Debt. At June 30, 2026 the company owed $933.8 million against $106.4 million of cash, a net $827.4 million, including $575 million of 4.25% notes due March 2029 and term loans and revolvers due October 2029. The leverage covenant stood at about 4.3 times in June; the permitted maximum is 4.25 times in the third and fourth quarters of 2026 and drops to 4.0 times in the second half of later years, and 2026 dividends and buybacks are capped. Cheap coupons until 2029 are roughly offset by the likelier cost of refinancing and covenant relief, so we add a net $22 million to the debt in the base and bull cases. Cases (per share, after debt). Base: $0.73. The business is worth about $920 million; it owes $827 million plus the $22 million adjustment; $70 million remains. Bull: $6.73. The cost program completes and cash flow declines only 2% a year (sales were flat from 2017 to 2019), giving about $119 million in year one. The business is worth about $1,492 million; $643 million remains. Bear: -$4.69. Cash flow starts lower, at $75 million, and keeps shrinking about 9% a year (sales fell 9.1% in 2024 and 8.5% in 2025); a downturn like 2020, when this cash flow fell 53%, is modelled as a 45% cut in years three and four, arriving just as the 2029 notes come due. The business is worth about $456 million against $827 million of net debt plus about $77 million of expensive refinancing and covenant relief. The company would owe more than it is worth, by roughly $448 million, so shareholders would likely be wiped out. Sensitivity: the shares are a thin slice of a large business. If the yearly decline were 2.5% the shares would be worth about $3.00; at 3.5%, $1.75; at 5.5%, about zero; and if cash flow simply stayed at 2025's level and then declined 4.5% a year, the shares would be worth less than nothing. Our previous estimate (bear $0, base $3.90, bull $9.60) assumed cash flow would stabilize; it was made on a different basis and is not comparable. This update credits only evidenced drivers and counts the recurring cash drains described above. Margin-of-safety price: $0.35. We are only moderately sure of the earnings level: it has ranged from $0.69 to $2.52 per share in six years and the median hides that. The worst plausible outcome is a covenant breach during 2026-2027 while sales are still falling, forcing a costly amendment or share issuance, and the 2029 maturities ($575 million of notes plus the bank loans) arriving in a weak year; with $827 million of net debt against roughly $100 million a year of pre-interest cash flow, the equity does not survive that. If we are wrong about the decline rate by one point either way the shares move by roughly $1, and if cash flow does not recover from 2025 they are worth nothing. The price assumes a three-to-five-year holding period; the company paid $27 million of dividends in 2025, though 2026 payouts are capped and could be cut. At $0.35 a share, the whole equity is priced at about $33 million; from that price the base case implies well over 20% a year, and the bear case implies a total loss of the $0.35.

Sales geography
United States (Northeast, Midwest, South and West, sold nationally through retailers, office-supply dealers and e-commerce including Amazon), Canada, Mexico, Brazil; Europe (United Kingdom, Germany, France and other European countries); Australia and New Zealand
Historical growth strategy
Growth through debt-funded acquisitions of consumer and office brands (Mead Consumer and Office Products in 2012, Esselte in 2016, PowerA gaming accessories, Buro in 2025, EPOS in 2026), followed by cost restructuring and integration savings to pay down debt, with dividends and buybacks funded from cash flow. Organic sales have declined since 2021, and the company has written off goodwill and brand value after several acquisitions.
Chart analysis
A chartist would see a long, persistent downtrend: a series of lower highs and lower lows from the 2021 levels, with the shares now far below those highs. In mid-2026 the stock has stopped falling and is moving sideways in a tight base of roughly $3.80 to $4.40 (a low near $3.82 in late June, a jump to about $4.35 on July 1, and a close near $4.21 in late August). Support sits near $3.80 and resistance near $4.40. A close above resistance would be the first higher high in years and would suggest the downtrend is ending; a close below $3.80 would resume the downtrend. Daily swings of 3 to 5 percent are common, so the stock is volatile and range-bound rather than trending.
