Invesco DB US Dollar Index Bullish Fund (UUP) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityAverage Updated
Invesco DB US Dollar Index Bullish Fund (UUP) is not an operating business. It is an exchange-traded commodity pool that holds futures contracts betting the U.S. dollar will rise against a basket of six major currencies (euro, yen, pound, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona and Swiss franc). It holds Treasury securities and cash as collateral. It has no products, customers or earnings power of its own. The fund does not generate owner earnings that can be projected and discounted, and no cash-flow forecast would mean anything for it. What a share represents is its share of the fund's net assets, which are marked to market every day. We therefore value a share at its net asset value. The most recent reported figure is $28.41 per share at June 30, 2026, up from $27.07 at December 31, 2025. The same $28.41 is used for the bear, base and bull cases. Nothing named and evidenced about this fund gives a reason to expect the dollar-index futures to earn a return above or below what is already in that price. A forecast of the dollar's direction would be a market call, not a valuation of a business, so we do not make one. Some facts about how the fund works matter for holders. The fund charges an annual management fee. It also pays out distributions that the fund itself classifies as a return of capital: $0.93 per share in 2025, $1.32 in 2024 and $1.75 in 2023. Those payments come out of net asset value rather than being extra earnings. Year-end net asset value per share was $27.09 in 2023, $29.42 in 2024 and $27.07 in 2025, so the fund has gone essentially nowhere over that span. Its results depend entirely on the dollar's moves against the basket, and the fund can lose value quickly when the dollar weakens. Because the fund has no earnings stream that can reliably grow the value of a share, there is no basis to expect a 20% annual return. We therefore set no margin-of-safety price. The share is worth its net asset value. At that value the fund offers a hedge or a directional currency exposure, not a business return. The per-share net asset value is a period-end mark and will have moved by the time this is read.
