SandRidge Energy produces oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids in the Mid-Continent: the Mississippian Lime in northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas, the NW Stack, and, since its August 2024 purchase of Cherokee Play assets in the Western Anadarko Basin for about $122 million in cash, a one-rig Cherokee drilling program. In 2025 it produced 6.8 million barrels of oil equivalent (18.5 thousand a day), about half natural gas, a third NGLs and a fifth oil. It has no debt, held $113 million of cash at June 30, 2026, pays a regular dividend, and about 95% of its acreage is held by production. Three purchasers took about two-thirds of 2025 sales (Targa 33%, Plains 22%, Valero 14%). This is a different company from the pre-2020 SandRidge. That version spent $190-220 million a year drilling and lost money on an owner-earnings basis every year from 2017 to 2019. It then took $666 million of write-downs in 2019-2020, and the business was restructured around low-cost, cash-generating production. How we measure earnings: we start from operating cash flow. We strip out working-capital swings and deduct stock pay as a real cost. We then deduct the drilling spend needed to keep the business going. Only in 2025, when volumes actually grew, did we treat a small slice (about $6 million) of drilling as growth. In 2021 and 2022, revenue jumped only because prices rose while production fell, so we treated all drilling as upkeep. Cash spent on well plugging stays in as a real cost. The purchase price of acquisitions is not deducted from yearly earnings, but it shows up in how long the earnings can last. On that basis, earnings per share were $2.61 (2021), $3.89 (2022), $2.00 (2023), $1.27 (2024) and $1.41 (2025). The 2021-2023 figures flatter the business. In those years the company spent far less than it needed to replace what it produced, and output fell about 5% a year, from 6.8 to 6.2 million barrels equivalent. 2022 also carried peak commodity prices. We therefore anchor on the business as it now runs, drilling to replace and grow reserves: the median of 2024 and 2025, $1.34 per share. That span includes a gas-price trough in 2024 (realized gas $1.10 per mcf) and an ordinary year in 2025. The first half of 2026 runs at roughly $1.74 annualized, with revenue up 31% and operating cash flow up 44% from a year earlier. We treat that as support for the near-term path, not a new level. Earnings grew 11% in 2025, and we assume 10% for 2026. A large tax asset matters. The company carries about $1.6 billion of federal tax losses ($0.9 billion with no expiry), so it should pay little or no cash income tax for many years. A future change of ownership under Section 382 could restrict this. Base case, about $16 per share: earnings of about $1.47 per share are held flat for six years by the Cherokee program. The 2025 record supports this: $43.7 million turned 4.7 million barrels equivalent of undeveloped reserves into producing ones, roughly $9 per barrel. Proved reserves rose from 63 to 69 million barrels equivalent while the company produced 6.8 million. Undeveloped reserves of 8.8 million barrels equivalent and a 2026 capital budget of $76-97 million support the next few years. Beyond about year six we can't point to drilling inventory, so we assume drilling winds down. The company then harvests its reserves as it did in 2021-2023, starting near $2.50 per share and declining about 12% a year, the decline built into the independent reserve report. As a cross-check, the reported value of proved reserves at year-end 2025 was $440 million at a 10% discount and $814 million undiscounted, at about $65 oil. Recalculated at our 6% rate, less overhead, plus cash, that comes to roughly $15-16 per share. Bear case, about $9 per share: prices stay near the 2024-2025 lows. Cherokee wells disappoint like the 3.9 million barrels equivalent of negative performance and shut-in revisions booked in 2025. Earnings run at about $1.00 per share for five years, then a smaller harvest runs off from about $1.50. We also deduct about $1 per share for the risk that cash is spent on acquisitions that earn poor returns. Management says it is evaluating acquisitions, and this company has written off large investments before. Losing the tax shield or a key purchaser would add further pressure. Bull case, about $21 per share: the Cherokee program performs as it did in 2025 and the larger 2026 budget lifts output. Earnings rise to about $1.90 per share and hold for eight years, as leasing and cash-funded bolt-on purchases at 2025-like development costs extend the drilling inventory. A larger harvest then runs off from about $3.00 per share. What would make this wrong: our figures assume commodity prices across a cycle like 2021-2025, not a forecast, so a prolonged Mid-Continent gas and NGL price slump would push value toward the bear case. Faster-than-reported well declines, an expensive acquisition, or a loss of the tax losses would also cut value. Because this is a small, commodity-driven producer with limited proven drilling inventory, the margin of safety must be wide, and the margin-of-safety price is around $9.50, close to the bear-case value.
