What you own. Permianville Royalty Trust has 33,000,000 units and owns one asset: an 80% net profits interest in oil and gas properties in Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico operated by third parties, with the sponsor (COERT) holding the underlying working interests. The trust receives 80% of what is left after the properties' operating costs and development (drilling) spending, and pays out what remains after its own small expenses. It has no employees, cannot borrow to grow and does not control drilling. In months when costs exceed revenue nothing is paid: in 2025 no distribution was made for January through August. The interest is a wasting asset with no fixed end date. The trust must be sold and dissolved if annual cash from the interest is under $2 million for two consecutive years, or if 75% of units vote for it. How we measured earnings. The trust keeps no conventional cash-flow statement, so we used distributable income per unit, which is already after all property costs, development spending and trust expenses. There is no stock compensation and no working capital. We removed one-time sale proceeds from asset sales (2017, 2018 and 2023). Per unit, the last ten years were about $0.26 (2016), $0.21, $0.41, $0.29, $0.15, $0.09, $0.41, $0.28, $0.09 (2024) and $0.11 (2025). The sponsor sold the Permian properties in 2023 and later years contain a different, smaller and more gas-weighted asset base, so we anchored on the 2024 and 2025 level of roughly $0.096 per unit. Two features flatter the figure. 2024 contained thirteen months of results because a December 2023 shortfall was recouped, and 2025 includes a one-time $282,072 escrow release (about $0.01 per unit). The 2025 rise over 2024 (about 25%) is therefore mostly timing, and every case below starts lower than 2025, not higher. Base case, about $0.55 per unit. Distributions begin near $0.10 and decline about 10% a year as the properties deplete. We credited no growth. The trust's reserve report shows proved reserves of 4.3 million barrels of oil equivalent at the end of 2025, down from 5.1 million a year earlier: 2025 additions of 1.3 million did not offset production of 1.5 million and downward revisions of 0.6 million. The sponsor guides 2026 development spending of $9 million to $15 million on the underlying properties, mostly in the Haynesville gas area, which supports production but does not by itself grow trust income. We did not add value from oil and gas price recovery, the sponsor's hoped-for sale of properties, or reserve-report upside. Bear case, about $0.15 per unit. Distributions fall to about $0.06, below the 2024 and 2025 levels, and decline 15% a year. Oil reserves were revised down 28% in 2025, and net profits were negative in eight of twelve months that year because development costs absorbed revenue. The trust ends in roughly five years, either through the $2 million income floor or a sale, with nothing after that. Bull case, about $1.10 per unit. Distributions rise to about $0.15 (the 2020 level) and decline only about 6% a year. This rests on facts in the filing: three new Haynesville wells began producing in 2025; six more projects are drilling, awaiting first revenue or in progress; proved undeveloped reserves of 1.1 million barrels of oil equivalent are booked; and in 2025 the underlying properties earned about $19 million before development spending, of which the trust's 80% share is about $15 million. If development spending stays near the low end of the sponsor's range, a larger share reaches unitholders. Why we did not use the engineer's reserve value. The trust's own standardized measure of discounted future cash flows was $73 million at the end of 2025 (about $2.22 per unit) and $163 million at the end of 2022. Actual distributions across 2022 to 2025 totalled about $34 million (about $1.03 per unit, including a $4.8 million asset sale), so the reserve estimates have run far ahead of cash paid. The value we use is what the trust has actually distributed. What would make this wrong. Results depend on the sponsor's and third-party operators' spending decisions, which the trust cannot influence, and on oil and gas prices that swing distributions widely (from $0.09 to $0.41 per unit in the last five years). Higher gas volumes from Haynesville wells or lower development costs could lift income above our base case; a shortfall month streak or a forced sale could lower it. Any of the cases can also be affected by a sale of the underlying properties, which the sponsor says it may consider, and whose terms would not necessarily favor unitholders. Margin-of-safety price. The margin-of-safety price is $0.20 per unit, roughly 60% below the base case and modestly above the bear case, because this is a small, depleting, cost-exposed asset with no operating control and a wide range of outcomes.
