Knowles makes specialised electronic components for demanding uses. Its Precision Devices segment (about $329 million of 2025 revenue) sells high-reliability capacitors and radio-frequency filters into defense, medical, industrial and energy markets. Its MedTech & Specialty Audio segment (about $264 million) sells tiny balanced-armature speakers and microphones, mainly for hearing aids. In December 2024 Knowles sold its consumer smartphone microphone business to Syntiant, so the figures here describe the continuing business only: revenue of $593 million in 2025, up from $554 million in 2024. How we measured earnings. We start from cash generated by the continuing business, strip out swings in receivables, inventories and payables, and subtract stock compensation and the capital spending needed to stand still. On that basis owner earnings per share were about $0.14 in 2023, $0.45 in 2024 and $1.12 in 2025. The earlier years were held back by acquisition and integration costs from the 2023 purchase of Cornell Dubilier and by a payables build that flatters cash flow in the year it happens; 2025 also excludes $19.8 million of customer prepayments and $32.5 million of one-time payments to settle obligations from the sold microphone business. Only three years are comparable because earlier filings were not restated for the sale. Because 2023 was a partial, acquisition-distorted year and 2025 is the only full year after the sale, we value the business on about $0.79 a share, the middle of the 2024 and 2025 results, rather than on the single best year. The company's own adjusted free cash flow figure ($114 million) is built on a different basis and was not used. Owner earnings grew sharply in 2025 from a low 2024 base, so we do not carry that rate forward. One item we could not fully reconcile: building 2025 cash earnings from net income plus non-cash charges lands roughly $10 to $20 million below the cash-flow-based figure, likely because cash flows from the sold business and a $13.7 million non-current line are mixed together in the statements. Base case: about $7.40 a share. Owner earnings stay near $0.79 a share for ten years and then fade over a further ten years. We credit no growth. Recent revenue gains came from defense, medical and energy demand and higher pricing, which are market conditions rather than something contracted or repeated by a steady internal process. What supports a long life is the nature of the products: qualified, high-specification capacitors and hearing-health components that customers design in and are slow to replace, and Knowles's record since 1946. We do not assume that lasts forever, and about $16 million a year of acquired-intangible amortisation is a reminder that purchased franchises wear down. Bear case: about $4.50 a share. Hearing-aid maker WS Audiology has fallen from 16% to 14% to 11% of sales in three years, and MSA already reported lower prices on mature products, with margin falling from 38.5% to 35.1% in 2025. If that pressure continues and PD demand returns to 2024 levels, owner earnings drop to about $0.53 a share for five years and then decline about 8% a year. The company also carries $114 million drawn on its revolving credit facility, due within one to three years, and has used cash on a $72.7 million seller note and $65 million of buybacks in 2025. Bull case: about $10.90 a share. Precision Devices revenue rose about 10% in 2025 and the company has already funded expanded capacity for specialty film capacitors (capital spending rose to 5.4% of revenue and is guided at 4% to 5% in 2026). If those plants ramp on schedule and pricing gains hold, owner earnings grow about 5% a year for five years, then hold flat for ten and fade over ten more. What we left out. Knowles owns Syntiant preferred stock carried at $83 million. It produces no cash earnings, and we do not add it to the value. We also excluded any margin recovery in the specialty film ramp, where yields were below expectations in 2025. What would make us wrong. Tested against the filings, the base case leans on the persistence of the medtech and defense customer base. WS Audiology plus distributor TTI together account for 21% of revenue, and a loss of either would hurt. Conversely, cash generation could prove stronger than we assume if 2025 levels of about $1.12 a share prove to be the new normal, which would lift all three cases.
