CTS Corporation designs and manufactures engineered sensors, actuators and electronic components (EMI/RFI filters, capacitors, frequency control products, resistors, piezo microactuators and rotary actuators), most of them custom-designed with customers. 2025 net sales were $541.3 million: transportation 43% (down from 55% in 2023), industrial 26%, medical 16% and aerospace and defense 15%. About 56% of sales are booked in the United States; sales booked in China were $87.0 million, down from $108.7 million in 2023, which management attributes to customers losing market share there. HOW WE MEASURED EARNINGS. We count the cash the business earns for its owners as operating cash flow, less swings in working capital, less stock compensation ($4.9 million in 2025), less the part of capital spending needed just to keep the plants running ($14.7 million of the $15.7 million spent in 2025; the rest is treated as growth spending). Amortization of acquired intangibles ($16.2 million in 2025) is a non-cash charge and is added back automatically; because acquired customer relationships wear out, we carry that decay by crediting no growth and by letting earnings fade in the later years, not by lowering today's earnings. On this basis owner earnings rose from $30.4 million in 2016 to $78.5 million in 2025 (2021 to 2025: $74.2 million, $79.7 million, $72.3 million, $64.7 million, $78.5 million). Two items were adjusted: 2022 excludes $34.0 million received when the company terminated its U.S. pension plan, which will not recur, and 2024 uses the restated figures from the 2025 annual report, which corrected accounting errors related to the SyQwest acquisition. Because CTS has little debt, we add back the cash interest it pays ($4.0 million in 2025), value the business as a whole, and then subtract what it owes. That business cash flow was $76.1 million, $81.7 million, $75.4 million, $69.0 million and $82.5 million in 2021 through 2025. We use the median, $76.1 million, as the starting level. The window starts in 2021 because 2016 to 2020 describes a smaller business (sales were $397 million to $470 million, against $515 million to $587 million since 2021) and 2020 was a pandemic trough. The starting level is below 2025's $82.5 million on purpose. In 2025 business cash flow grew about 19.6% (owner earnings grew 21.3%); the base case assumes 0% in year 1, so no deceleration has to reverse. Early 2026 supports the level: first-quarter net sales were $139.2 million against $125.8 million a year earlier and operating cash flow was $17.3 million against $15.5 million. One quarter does not move the starting level. WHAT WE CREDITED AND WHAT WE LEFT OUT. We credit no growth in the base case. Sales to industrial, medical and aerospace and defense customers grew 16.3% in 2025 (including $22.3 million from SyQwest) and are the company's best evidence of momentum, but that growth depends on end markets continuing to expand and on new programs, neither of which is contracted, so it is left out of the base case. Acquisitions are left out too: CTS spent about $397 million on acquisitions in the last ten years, including $121.9 million on SyQwest in 2024, but the sizes are lumpy and the cash spent would otherwise be available to owners, so buying a business at a fair price adds nothing we can show. Buybacks ($56.2 million in 2025) are likewise treated as a use of owners' cash, not as growth. BASE CASE ($37.43 per share). Business cash flow holds at $76.1 million for ten years, because growth in the diversified end markets over 2023 to 2025 has roughly offset a shrinking transportation business (transportation sales fell from roughly $303 million to roughly $233 million over those two years while total sales moved only from $550 million to $541 million), and then fades 2% a year as acquired product lines age and no new program is yet visible. Discounted at 6%, the business is worth about $1,081 million. Against that, the company owes $62.5 million on its revolving credit line and about $3.5 million of contingent acquisition payments, and it holds $90.9 million of cash, of which we treat $70.9 million as excess after keeping $20 million to run the business; the net effect is about $5 million more cash than debt. That puts the shares' worth at about $1,086 million, or $37.43 per share on 29.0 million diluted shares. BEAR CASE ($23.68 per share). Transportation, still 43% of sales, keeps shrinking as it did through 2024 and 2025 (China share losses, lower commercial vehicle volumes, and tariff exposure through its operations in China, Mexico and the Czech Republic), and the diversified markets only offset part of it. Business cash flow falls 5% a year for ten years, to about $46 million, then 4% a year as acquired intangibles keep wearing out. The business is worth about $682 million; after the same net cash of about $5 million, that is about $687 million, or $23.68 per share. Debt is not a problem in this case: cash flow stays more than ten times the roughly $4 million of interest, and the $300 million credit facility runs to November 24, 2030 with only $62.5 million drawn. BULL CASE ($54.51 per share). Industrial, medical and aerospace and defense keep expanding at a pace below what they delivered in 2023 to 2025 and transportation stabilizes: business cash flow grows 4% a year for ten years, to about $113 million, then fades 1% a year. The business is worth about $1,576 million; adding net cash of about $5 million gives about $1,581 million, or $54.51 per share. HOW THIS COMPARES WITH OUR EARLIER VIEW. Our August 2026 analysis had values of $18.97, $32.69 and $46.15. The starting earnings level is essentially unchanged (about $72 million then, about $76 million before interest now). The higher values come from three changes: cash flows are now discounted at a uniform 6% instead of 10% to 12%, the fewer shares (29.0 million) after buybacks, and a longer, evidence-limited fade after year ten. Base-case growth is lower than before (0% instead of 3% a year) and the pension proceeds are excluded, so the changes are not all in one direction. WHAT WOULD MAKE THIS WRONG. If transportation falls faster than 5% a year and the diversified markets stall, the bear case is closer to the truth. If SyQwest or other acquired businesses need further write-downs or restatements, the value of past spending shrinks. If the industrial, medical and aerospace growth seen in early 2026 continues for a full decade, the bull case is closer. We found nothing in the filings that we could not reconcile.

Chart analysis
The annual report's text gives no price series, so this is a structural read of the chart rather than a level-by-level one. A chartist would focus on two things visible in the filings: a five-year total-return graph that benchmarks the stock against the Russell 2000 and an electrical-components peer index, and a steadily shrinking share count, from about 33.3 million diluted shares in 2016 to about 29.0 million in early 2026, driven by buybacks of $40.9 million in 2023, $42.6 million in 2024 and $56.2 million in 2025. Persistent buying of that size tends to give a stock a rising floor on pullbacks. Owner earnings stepped up in 2021 and have held since, so a long-term uptrend that tracks earnings, with dips tied to the vehicle-production cycle, is the pattern to look for. The things a chartist would check next, the position against the 50- and 200-day averages, volume on breakouts and prior support and resistance levels, are not in the filings.
