ImmuCell is a small Portland, Maine maker of First Defense, an oral antibody product given to newborn dairy and beef calves to prevent scours (calf diarrhea). First Defense is 99% of sales; about 88% of sales are in the United States and 72% go through two large animal-health distributors. Revenue grew from $9.5 million in 2016 to $27.6 million in 2025 and $17.5 million in the first half of 2026, as the company lifted annual capacity from 2.2 million units in 2018 to 4.6 million in 2025. For most of the past decade the company did not produce owner cash. On our measure (operating cash flow, with working-capital swings and stock pay removed and only maintenance spending on plant charged) it lost money in eight of ten years, largely because of Re-Tain, a mastitis drug pursued for over 20 years, including a $17.8 million plant build in 2017. In December 2025 management stopped investing in Re-Tain and took a $2.7 million write-down; that charge is added back as a sunk cost. A 2023 contamination episode collapsed gross margin to 22% and drove an order backlog that was only cleared in June 2025. 2025 was the first clean year: owner earnings of about $3.2 million ($0.35 a share) and about $3.6 million before $0.44 million of interest. First-half 2026 operating income of $3.9 million includes a one-time credit of roughly $2.0 million inside operating expenses (a legal settlement), so the underlying run rate is closer to $1.9 million for the seasonally stronger half. Because the business as it now exists only began with the Re-Tain exit, we anchor on 2025 and the first half of 2026 rather than a long median, which would be dominated by a development program that no longer exists. Owner earnings grew far faster in 2025 than any rate we assume; the base case assumes no growth in year one. Base case: cash generation before interest of about $3.4 million a year, slightly below 2025 because 2025 benefited from shipping out the backlog, held flat indefinitely. No growth is credited: past growth came from capacity paid for mostly with new shares and debt rather than from the company's own cash, and new international approvals and a planned freeze-drying expansion are not yet done. The business is worth about $57 million; net debt is about $1.4 million ($8.3 million of bank loans less cash beyond operating needs), leaving about $6.01 a share on 9.19 million diluted shares. Bear case: starts at $2.4 million, includes a repeat of the 2023 contamination year (about $4.4 million of cash burned), a two-year dairy downturn like 2015-2016 (when sales fell 7%) cutting cash flow by a third, 10% dilution from an equity raise to protect the bank covenant (waived three times in 2024), and a fade to zero over years 16-25 because a single product competing against far larger companies has no proven replacement. The business is worth about $19 million, owes about $1.4 million net, leaving about $1.74 a share. Bull case: starts at $4.3 million and grows 5% a year for six years as the existing 4.6 million-unit capacity fills, roughly half the 12% revenue growth rate of the past nine years, then holds flat. Worth about $88 million less $1.4 million of debt, about $9.45 a share. The bank debt is fixed-rate at roughly 6.5-7%, and the 2025 refinancing removed balloon payments due in 2026; principal of $1.6 million is due in 2026 and $1.2 million in 2027. The company met its debt-service covenant in 2025 (2.65 versus 1.35 required) after missing it in 2024. Previous figures were prepared on a different basis and are not comparable. Margin-of-safety price: we are only moderately sure of the earnings level, because it rests on one clean year and one half-year. The worst plausible event is a contamination or colostrum-supply failure at its only production site, which has happened before and cost a full year of profit; a distributor dropping the line would be similar. The structure would survive one such year (debt is modest and cash covered it at mid-2026) but likely at the cost of new shares. If we are wrong about the 2025 level holding and about contamination being behind it, the shares are worth near the bear case of about $1.74. The company pays no dividend, so any return in the cases must come from the business proving its earnings over an assumed three-to-five-year holding period. At $2.30 the downside to the bear case is modest, and if the base case is simply confirmed over five years it implies well above 20% a year; above that, a single bad production year would wipe out the margin of safety. The margin-of-safety price is $2.30.

Sales geography
United States (roughly 88% of sales, mainly dairy and beef regions of the Midwest, West and Northeast including Wisconsin, California, Idaho and New York), Canada, and smaller international sales in Europe and Asia.
Historical growth strategy
Organic growth from a single product line (First Defense calf scours preventives) by expanding its own Portland, Maine manufacturing capacity, funded largely by repeated equity offerings and bank debt, while for two decades pouring cash into an in-house drug candidate (Re-Tain) that was abandoned in December 2025. Now pursuing yield improvements, repurposed Re-Tain assets and new international distributor approvals.
Chart analysis
A chartist would see a long, choppy micro-cap chart: a multi-year decline from the 2020-2021 highs into a 2023-2024 trough as production contamination and covenant waivers hit, followed by a basing pattern and a recovery leg through 2025-2026 as margins and profits returned. Gaps around quarterly reports are common; the key question for a technician is whether the stock can hold above its prior consolidation zone and turn the old resistance from the 2022 breakdown into support.
