SUNHYDROGEN, INC. (HYSR) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityHigh Updated
Business condition attached to the margin of safety Audited revenue from a commercial hydrogen-production product with positive operating cash flow after stock compensation.
This is a development-stage clean-hydrogen technology company. Its shares trade over the counter rather than on a national exchange, and the fiscal year ends June 30. Its annual filings show no product revenue in any of the ten years we reviewed. What the business does produce is a cash outflow: operating cash flow was negative every year, from about $(0.6) million in fiscal 2017 to about $(3.6) million in fiscal 2025 (fiscal 2024: $(1.8) million; fiscal 2021: $(5.4) million). After deducting stock-based compensation (about $0.7 million in fiscal 2025), which we treat as a real cost, and minimal equipment spending, owner earnings were about $(4.3) million in fiscal 2025, roughly $(0.0008) per share on about 5.3 billion weighted shares. Every year in the series is negative, in a narrow band of about $(0.0006) to $(0.0021) per share, so the earnings level we anchor on is negative. Nine-month cash burn in fiscal 2026 (to March 31, 2026) was $(3.9) million, in line with that history, so recent quarters do not change the picture. Accounting note: reported net income swung to large profits in fiscal 2021 and 2022 (about $81 million and $90 million). Those were non-cash gains on financial instruments, not operating results, and they do not appear in cash flow, so we disregarded them. Our approach credits only growth that is contracted or is the continuation of a long, proven process. The company has no signed sales contracts, backlog, or revenue history in the filings we reviewed. The annual report describes a growing hydrogen market, government targets (US tax-credit rules, EU and Japan strategies), and competitors, but market growth and policy targets are not something the company itself has secured, so none of it is credited. Because nothing named and evidenced produces future earnings, we assign no value to any future product. In all three cases (bear, base and bull), the estimated value per share is $0. The cases do not differ in value because we can point to no evidenced driver that would separate them; the bear case is not below zero because the company reported no going-concern warning and cash covers the current burn, and we did not add cash on top of the case values, which leaves each case at $0. For reference only, cash was about $13.1 million at March 31, 2026, versus about $34.6 million at June 30, 2025; we could not reconcile that fall of roughly $21.5 million to the $3.9 million operating burn from the filings we examined (it likely reflects non-operating uses of cash, which we did not verify), and we noted the difference without relying on it. Summary: on the evidence in the filings the shares have no demonstrable earning power today, so no margin-of-safety price above zero is supported. The estimate would be revisited only if the company shows real revenue from a commercial product and operating cash flow that covers its costs including stock compensation. What would make this wrong: a signed commercial supply or licensing agreement, or a demonstrated product sale at scale, would create value we currently cannot name or evidence. The company also has years of funding through its cash balance, so time is not the immediate constraint, but cash alone is not earnings.
