What the business is. EPAM Systems sells software engineering, digital product development and technology consulting to large companies, billing mostly for the time of its roughly 50,000-plus engineers. Revenue was $5.46 billion in 2025: $2.83 billion from clients in the United States, $597 million from the United Kingdom, $438 million from Switzerland, $233 million from Germany, $230 million from the Netherlands and $1.12 billion elsewhere, the last group enlarged by NEORIS, a Latin American IT services firm bought on November 1, 2024. The client base is broad: the top twenty clients were 31.9% of 2025 revenue and the top five 13.7%. Delivery is spread across India, Poland, Mexico, Latin America, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, but about 14,100 staff remain in Ukraine and Belarus, which is the company's most specific operational risk. What it earns. We measure owner earnings as operating cash flow, with year-to-year swings in receivables, payables and accruals removed, less stock-based pay (a real cost of $177 million in 2025) and less the capital spending needed to maintain the business rather than grow it. On that basis EPAM earned $8.15 per share in 2022, $7.85 in 2023, $7.73 in 2024 and $7.53 in 2025. We start from the median of those four years, $7.79 per share. We measure from 2022 because that year EPAM exited Russia and rebuilt its delivery footprint after the invasion of Ukraine; the faster-growing business of 2016-2021, when revenue went from $1.16 billion to $3.76 billion, is a different company. Two accounting choices matter. First, amortization of acquired customer relationships and other intangibles, $71 million in 2025 against $29 million in 2024 after the NEORIS and First Derivative deals, is added back because it is a sunk purchase cost; acquired relationships wear out, so we handle that by keeping growth assumptions moderate rather than treating those customers as permanent. Second, a growing services firm has to fund bigger receivables as it grows. Removing working-capital swings leaves that cost out, which is another reason the growth rates below are conservative. Recent results. In 2025 owner earnings per share fell 2.6%, and owner earnings as a share of revenue have slipped from about 10% in 2022 to 7.8%. The first half of 2026 points the other way: revenue up 6%, operating income up 19%, and net income up 12% in the first quarter and 17% in the second. Diluted shares were down about 6.5% after $409 million of buybacks in the half. Operating cash flow was negative $39 million for the half. We traced that to timing: accrued liabilities fell $154 million, reversing an unusually large $144 million build in 2025, and receivables and tax payments rose. We have not treated it as lower earning power. Those two quarters are the reason our base case starts with 8% growth in year one instead of continuing 2025's decline. Bear case, about $58 per share. Earnings hold near the 2025 level of $7.53 for a year and then fall about 4% a year for a decade, in line with the 2022-2025 slide in margins. The drivers are ones the company already discloses: AI coding tools that let clients buy fewer engineering hours, competitors building the same AI skills and pushing prices down, and disruption of its Ukraine and Belarus centers. After year ten, earning power fades to nothing over another ten years. Base case, about $145 per share. Owner earnings grow 8% in year one, as the 2026 quarters show, then 6% a year through year five, in line with current revenue growth, and 4% a year through year ten, reaching roughly $12.90 per share. They then hold flat for ten years on the strength of a long-tenured client base spread across more than twenty large accounts and many smaller ones, and fade to zero over the following ten. We assume no value lasts beyond thirty years, because we cannot point to evidence that labor-based engineering services keep their economics that long. Bull case, about $245 per share. Demand for AI-driven transformation work, which the company now describes as its main strategy, lets EPAM grow owner earnings 10% a year for five years and 7% a year for five more. That is still well below its 2016-2022 record. Growth then slows to 3% a year for another decade, holds flat for ten years and fades to zero after that. Balance sheet. EPAM had $789 million of cash at June 30, 2026, against about $25 million of long-term debt. We do not add that cash to the values above, and debt is not a risk here. What the shares appear to be worth, and what would make the estimate wrong. Our central estimate is about $145 per share, with a range of $58 to $245. Given how directly AI could erode this kind of work, and the concentration of staff in a war zone, the estimate calls for a wide margin of safety, and the margin-of-safety price is about $80. At that price the bear case implies a loss of roughly a quarter, while the base case implies a starting owner-earnings yield of about 10% plus growth. We would be wrong on the low side if the 2026 recovery proves to be the start of renewed double-digit growth. We would be wrong on the high side if clients' use of AI tools cuts billable engineering hours faster than new AI work replaces them, which would show up as falling revenue per engineer and continued margin slippage.
