Weatherford International provides services and equipment to oil and gas producers in three segments: Drilling and Evaluation (managed pressure drilling, drilling services, wireline, drilling fluids), Well Construction and Completions, and Production and Intervention. It is a cyclical business: revenue follows producer spending. Revenue was $3.7 billion in 2020, $4.3 billion in 2022, $5.5 billion in 2024 and $4.9 billion in 2025, when activity softened, particularly in Latin America. How we measure earnings. We take cash from operations, strip out swings in receivables, inventory, payables and accruals, and subtract stock compensation and the portion of capital spending needed just to keep the business running. On that basis owner earnings per diluted share were about $1.93 in 2021, $5.17 in 2022, $9.17 in 2023, $8.65 in 2024 and $6.23 in 2025. Weatherford emerged from bankruptcy in December 2019, and 2020 (a collapse year with a large one-time release of working capital) was negative, so we use only the years since 2021. That five-year window spans a trough, a boom and the current pullback, and its median, $5.17 per share (about $370 million a year), is the earnings level we treat as normal. Earnings fell about 28% in 2025 and we credit no growth from here, so the starting point is not above the most recent trend. Cash from operations in the first half of 2026 was $311 million versus $270 million a year earlier, but net income in the second quarter of 2026 was well below the prior-year quarter and we could not establish why from the filings we reviewed. A single quarter does not move our normal level. 2023 and 2024 cash flow was helped by heavy collections from the largest customer in Mexico, which was paying late and using third-party lenders to settle invoices ($484 million received that way in 2024, $93 million in 2025). Stripping out working capital removes that timing benefit from our figures. Base case, about $59 per share: earnings stay at $5.17 per share for 20 years and then stop counting. We give no credit for growth. Weatherford has no contracted backlog or repeatable expansion record that we could point to, and market expansion, share gains and new products are not the kind of growth we count. Twenty years of the current earning power rests on the fact that wells decline and must continually be serviced, but the company itself went through bankruptcy in 2019, so we do not assume permanence. Bear case, about $19 per share: activity stays near the 2021 trough for 15 years at about $1.93 per share, and then nothing is assumed to persist. Weatherford carries about $1.5 billion of debt (only $29 million due in 2026, $238 million in 2030 and $1.2 billion later), so a long downturn leaves little cushion. The Mexican customer, at about 24% of year-end receivables, is a further concentration. Bull case, about $92 per share: earnings return to about $8.00 per share, roughly the average of 2023 to 2025, and hold for 20 years. This uses only levels the company has reached recently under current cost structure, not a rise from there. What would make this wrong: a longer or deeper downturn than 2021 (bear), or the recent cost cuts and asset sales (Argentine pressure pumping was sold in 2025) proving to lift normal earnings above our anchor. Our estimate includes no cash balance and no deduction for debt, because owner earnings are already stated after interest. The margin-of-safety price of $32 is well below the base case, reflecting cyclicality, leverage and geographic concentration; we did not consider the market price in setting these figures.
