Vista Gold owns essentially one asset: the Mt Todd gold project in Australia's Northern Territory. It has no revenue and has never poured gold, so there are no earnings to project forward in the usual way. Over the past decade the company has consistently consumed cash rather than generated it. After subtracting capital spending and the cost of shares issued to employees, the business burned about $11.6 million in 2021, $8.2 million in 2022, $6.5 million in 2023, $6.8 million in 2024 and $7.9 million in 2025, or roughly five to eleven cents per share each year. That burn is simply the cost of holding, permitting and studying the project, and it is funded by selling new shares. A cash-flow valuation built on those figures would be meaningless for a company that has not yet built its mine, so the valuation here rests on the project's own economics instead. A feasibility study completed in July 2025 describes a 15,000 tonne-per-day operation producing about 150,000 ounces of gold a year for thirty years from 5.2 million ounces of proven and probable reserves, at an all-in sustaining cost near $1,450 an ounce, requiring $425 million of construction capital. The company published the project's after-tax present value across a range of gold prices and discount rates, and those published figures are the backbone of all three cases. The bear case uses the lowest gold price the study models, a demanding 10 percent discount rate on the project, and assumes only a slightly better than even chance the mine is ever built, with construction money raised on poor terms; that gives roughly $0.68 a share. The base case uses the study's own gold price with a stiffer 8 percent discount rate, a 70 percent chance of development and financing on fair terms, giving about $2.56. The bull case uses the highest gold price the study models and assumes the project is built and financed well, giving about $5.01. Each case is discounted a further two years for the wait before a construction decision and adds the roughly $50 million of cash on hand, less expected spending in the meantime. The company carries no debt. The honest limitation is that this is a single, unbuilt asset. Vista has held Mt Todd since 2006 without building it, permit modifications matching the new smaller plan are not yet approved, and $425 million is many times the company's current size, so existing owners will very likely be diluted. Our confidence in the base case is well under half, which is why we would want to pay around $0.48 - a price at which the cash covers a meaningful share of the cost and the ore body itself comes close to free.
