Talos Energy produces oil and natural gas offshore in the U.S. Gulf of America, mostly in deep water. In 2025 it produced 34.5 million barrels of oil equivalent (94.6 thousand per day), about 70% of it oil, and oil was 88% of $1.78 billion of revenue. It sold at an average of $51.55 per barrel of oil equivalent, down from $58.23 in 2024. What the business is worth is mostly a question of how long its wells last. At the end of 2025 proved reserves were 174.7 million barrels of oil equivalent, about five years of 2025 output. Over 2023 to 2025, drilling results and reserve revisions produced a net reduction of 2.8 million barrels in total, against 24 to 35 million barrels produced each year. The company held output at about 93 to 95 thousand per day in 2024 and 2025 by spending roughly $480 to $560 million a year on wells and platforms and by buying other companies: EnVen in February 2023 and QuarterNorth in March 2024. We credit neither future acquisitions nor future discoveries, because the acquisitions were large one-off deals rather than a steady small-step routine, and organic additions have not covered production. The 2026 plan points the same way: production of 85 to 90 thousand per day, below 2025's 94.6. Owner earnings (operating cash flow less working-capital swings, stock compensation and drilling and facility spending) were $432.6 million in 2024 and $527.5 million in 2025, or $2.46 and $3.01 per share. We measure from 2023 because EnVen and QuarterNorth roughly doubled the company; the median of 2023, 2024 and 2025 is the 2024 figure, $2.46 per share. We treated all drilling spending as upkeep, because output stays level only with continued drilling. We removed the "other non-current assets and liabilities" line as working capital, as management does; that removed a $104 million cash outflow in 2025. Plugging and abandonment costs, $117.8 million in 2025 against a $1.33 billion obligation at year end, stay in as real costs. Owner earnings rose 22% in 2025, but the base case starts the first year lower, in line with the roughly 7% step-down in 2026 production guidance (87.5 thousand per day at the midpoint versus 94.6). First-half 2026 operating cash flow was $474.6 million versus $619.9 million a year earlier, but almost all of that gap is receivables and other current assets, which released about $88 million in early 2025 and absorbed about $69 million in early 2026. We do not read it as weaker earning power. Base case, about $7 per share: the proved reserves are produced and paid out. The company's own estimate of their after-tax value, after production costs, remaining development and abandonment, is $3.09 billion undiscounted, or $2.80 billion discounted at 10% (at $65.37 oil, close to the 2025 realized price). At 6% we estimate about $2.9 billion. From that we subtract about $0.9 billion for overhead (2025 general and administrative expense was $155 million) and about $0.85 billion for interest on $1.25 billion of notes (9.000% due February 2029 and 9.375% due February 2031). That leaves about $1.2 billion, or about $7 on 168.5 million shares. Bear case, about $2.3: two named pressures. First, the notes have to be repaid out of a shrinking reserve base rather than refinanced, which costs about $3 per share after the interest saved. Second, reserve estimates are cut about 10%; in 2023 revisions removed 18.1 million barrels, about 13% of the opening reserves, largely from lower year-end prices and weaker well performance at the Phoenix field. Bull case, about $10: drilling and the Monument project (a 21.4% non-operated interest) keep adding reserves at 2025's net pace of 7.3 million barrels a year for five years, worth about $3 per share more. What would make these wrong: reserves that keep being replaced through drilling, or a sustained price above the roughly $65 oil used here, would lift the value. The offsets are hurricane downtime, a fall in oil prices (the 2025 net loss of about $495 million included a $454 million non-cash write-down of properties), and abandonment costs above the $1.33 billion recorded. The bank credit facility had no borrowings at year end and cash and restricted cash were $439 million, which supports the near-term position. Given short-lived reserves and $1.25 billion of debt, the margin-of-safety price is well below the base value, around $3.90 per share.
