Symbotic designs, builds and installs robotic warehouse systems for large retail and grocery distribution centers, then earns ongoing fees for software maintenance and support and for operating assistance and spare parts. System sales are almost all of revenue: $2,119 million of fiscal 2025's $2,247 million. Walmart is the dominant customer, about 85% of fiscal 2025 revenue, under an agreement to automate all 42 of its regional distribution centers; UNFI, GreenBox (a joint venture Symbotic partly owns), Southern Glazer's and Albertsons together made up about 13%. WHAT THE BUSINESS HAS EARNED. Revenue grew from $92 million in fiscal 2020 to $2,247 million in fiscal 2025, but the business has not yet produced positive owner earnings in any full fiscal year. We measure owner earnings as operating cash flow with swings in working capital removed, less stock-based pay (a real cost here: $184 million in fiscal 2025) and the capital spending needed to keep the business running. On that basis owner earnings ran between about -$0.10 and -$0.32 per share every year from fiscal 2020 through 2025 (-$0.16 in fiscal 2025). Reported operating cash flow of $867 million in fiscal 2025 looks far better, but $606 million of it came from a rise in customer prepayments, which is timing, not profit. The $45 million of the Walmart robotics purchase price that was booked as a payment to Walmart as a customer was treated as part of the acquisition cost, not an operating cost. Per-share figures count all economic shares (Class A plus the Class V shares exchangeable one-for-one), about 604 million at June 27, 2026. THE TURN. In the first nine months of fiscal 2026 revenue rose to $2,027 million from $1,628 million, gross margin improved to 21.9% from 18.6%, and the company reported operating income of $45.5 million against a $69.2 million loss a year earlier ($32.9 million in the June quarter alone). After stock pay and maintenance capital spending, and leaving out interest earned on cash, we estimate this equals roughly 1.5% of revenue for the nine months (fiscal 2026 capital spending had to be estimated from the growth in property and equipment because it was not separately available). Because every full year on record is negative, the full-year history cannot describe the business as it now operates; we set the starting level from these three quarters taken together, not from the stronger June quarter alone. That is a deliberate change of direction from fiscal 2025, when results excluding interest income worsened to about -$125 million from about -$83 million; the reason we start next year positive is the reported nine-month turn, not a forecast. GROWTH WE CREDITED. The backlog is contracted: $22.5 billion at June 27, 2026, unchanged from September 2025 and roughly flat for three years. At fiscal 2025 year-end the company expected about 12% of backlog to become revenue within 12 months and about 62% over the following four years, the rest later. Converting that schedule, roughly $2.8 billion next year and about $3.5 billion a year for the three years after, is the only growth in our base case. We did not credit new orders beyond the backlog: intake has kept the backlog level, but it is concentrated in Walmart and GreenBox and has not been tested through a downturn. We also did not credit wider margins from spreading fixed costs over more revenue, because that has not yet been demonstrated. BASE CASE. The backlog converts on the company's schedule over about eight years at a 1.5% owner-earnings margin (about $42 million to $53 million a year), followed by about $30 million a year for seven years from software support on the installed base. Most of those support contracts run 15 years, and in fiscal 2025 that line earned $21.0 million of gross profit from 48 operating systems, with 50 more systems in deployment. Discounted at 6%, the business is worth about $364 million. We found no borrowings in the filings. Cash of $1,746 million is largely customer money: customer deposits stood at $1,737 million, so we count only the surplus left after netting all current liabilities and long-term deposits against current assets, about $528 million. Business $364 million, less no debt, plus $528 million of surplus cash, is about $891 million, or $1.48 per share. BEAR CASE. The fiscal 2026 improvement does not hold and results slip back toward fiscal 2024 and 2025, when owner earnings excluding interest ran about -5% of revenue; we assume -2% of revenue on average while installation timelines stretch the backlog over ten years, then a $20 million a year support tail for five years. The business consumes cash and is worth about -$310 million; with no debt and $528 million of surplus cash, shareholders are left with about $218 million, or $0.36 per share. Reliance on Walmart is the largest named risk behind this case. BULL CASE. The June-quarter margin, roughly 3.5% of revenue on the same basis by our estimate, holds; Walmart goes ahead with its contingent commitment to buy 400 store-level micro-fulfillment systems for online pickup and delivery, which the company says could add more than $5.0 billion of backlog if it meets performance targets; and order intake continues at its recent pace, keeping revenue near $4.0 billion a year through year ten, followed by a $60 million a year support tail for ten years. Business about $1,228 million, no debt, plus $528 million surplus cash, is about $1,756 million, or $2.91 per share. OTHER POINTS. In January 2025 Symbotic bought Walmart's Advanced Systems and Robotics business for $200 million in cash and later cut about 325 jobs, mostly among employees who came with it. The company raised $424 million by issuing shares in the first nine months of fiscal 2026, lifting the share count to about 604 million from 591 million. To separate growth from maintenance spending we used the business's average ratio of capital spending to revenue, about 3.5%. Given one dominant customer and only three quarters of profit, the margin-of-safety price is set at roughly half the base value. WHAT WOULD MAKE THIS WRONG. Owner-earnings margins rising well above the roughly 1.5% shown so far as revenue grows toward $3.5 billion, or a steady flow of new system orders beyond the current backlog, would raise these values substantially; neither is yet established in the filings. On the other side, any loss or delay of Walmart work would push results toward the bear case.

Sales geography
Primarily the United States (Walmart, about 85% of fiscal 2025 revenue, plus other grocery and wholesale distributors such as UNFI, Southern Glazer's and Albertsons); also Canada and Mexico (two Walmart de Mexico sites near Mexico City, begun in fiscal 2025).

Chart analysis
From mid-July to late September 2026 the shares closed in a range of roughly $39.60 to $48.24. The top of that range came on August 5, the day the fiscal third-quarter report was filed, and the low came the very next day, a sharp one-day reversal of close to 18%. The stock then partly recovered to $43.47 by September 25. A chartist would call this a volatile, range-bound pattern with no established trend, with the early-August high acting as resistance and the high-$30s low as support.
