STRATTEC Security Corporation makes automotive locks, keys, latches and power-access (door and liftgate) systems that are sold directly to vehicle manufacturers. The business is highly concentrated: General Motors, Ford and Stellantis together bought about 64% of STRATTEC's products in fiscal 2025, so the company's fortunes move closely with how many vehicles those three automakers build in North America. The products themselves are largely powertrain agnostic — a vehicle needs locks and door latches whether it runs on gasoline or electricity — which is a meaningful long-term positive relative to suppliers of engine or transmission parts. A structural change is worth understanding before looking at the numbers. Through fiscal 2023, STRATTEC held a one-third stake in a separate joint venture (VAST) and owned 80% of another affiliate, STRATTEC Power Access (SPA), with its German partner WITTE owning the remaining 20%. Effective June 30, 2023, STRATTEC sold its VAST stake to WITTE for cash and, in the same transaction, bought out WITTE's 20% of SPA. Since fiscal 2024, STRATTEC has kept essentially all of the cash the consolidated business generates, whereas in earlier years a meaningful share — sometimes a quarter or more — went to joint-venture partners. We adjusted the historical earnings series so that all years are compared on a like-for-like, all-STRATTEC-shareholders basis. Even after that adjustment, per-share owner earnings have been volatile historically — from roughly negative $4 in a weak year to over $9 in a strong one — reflecting both the cyclicality of vehicle production and lumpy capital spending as the company tools up for new vehicle programs. We anchor our estimate of normal earning power on a recent representative year of the post-restructuring business, corroborated by an even stronger following year, while using the fuller history to size the downside risk. The company also carries no long-term debt, which limits (but does not eliminate) the downside in a severe cyclical trough. Looking out ten years, we do not assume STRATTEC's contracts simply renew forever. Automotive supply agreements run for the life of a specific vehicle program — typically several years — after which the business must re-win the work at the next model redesign. STRATTEC has a long history of being re-awarded content on the same vehicle nameplates across multiple redesigns, so our base case assumes it continues to do so, but at a lower, discounted level after the ten-year window rather than assuming today's earnings simply continue unchanged forever. Our base case assumes roughly flat-to-modestly-growing North American vehicle production, only partial persistence of the tariff costs the company disclosed in 2025 (management estimated a $5-7 million annual cost-of-goods impact before mitigation actions), and steady, modest growth in the value of content STRATTEC sells per vehicle as power doors and liftgates become more common. Under this case we value the shares at approximately $92. Our bear case (roughly a one-in-ten downside outcome) assumes a real North American production downturn compounded by the loss of meaningful content on one of the company's largest customer platforms at its next redesign later this decade, and tariff costs that prove more persistent than management's mitigation plans anticipate. In this scenario we value the shares at approximately $23 — a reminder that a business this concentrated in a handful of large customers and this exposed to the auto production cycle can see its earning power fall very sharply in a genuine downturn. Our bull case (roughly a one-in-ten upside outcome) assumes a favorable turn in the vehicle-production cycle together with STRATTEC winning additional power-access and passive-entry content and largely mitigating the new tariff costs. Under this scenario we value the shares at approximately $175. Because the downside case is so much weaker than our central estimate, the margin-of-safety price sits at a meaningful discount to our base-case estimate — around $46 per share — reflecting the real risk that a business this dependent on a few large automotive customers can go through extended stretches of weak or negative owner earnings. One item we could not fully reconcile from the filings: the company does not separately break out cash flow, capital spending or working capital for its former joint-venture subsidiaries versus the rest of the business, so our adjustment for the pre-2024 joint-venture ownership structure relies on the reported net-income split between STRATTEC and its former partners as the best available proxy, applied to the company's overall cash-flow-based earnings figure. We view this as a reasonable approximation rather than a precise figure.
