Scholar Rock Holding Corp (SRRK) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityHigh Updated
Business condition attached to the margin of safety FDA approval of apitegromab for spinal muscular atrophy and at least several quarters of product sales producing positive owner earnings after stock compensation.
Scholar Rock is a clinical-stage biotechnology company. Its lead candidate, apitegromab, is a muscle-targeted antibody for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), with a further study planned in facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy. It has no approved product and no product revenue: 2025 revenue was zero, after collaboration revenue of $33 million in 2022 and $15-20 million in 2019-2020. Cash burn has grown every year: operating cash flow was about -$127 million in 2021, -$201 million in 2024 and -$300 million in 2025. Stock compensation, a real cost that operating cash flow adds back, rose to $75.6 million in 2025. On our basis, owner earnings per share were roughly -$4.23 (2021), -$2.71, -$2.07, -$2.38 and -$3.28 (2025). The company has raised cash by issuing shares, and diluted shares grew from about 37 million in 2021 to about 115 million in 2025. The key event is regulatory. The FDA issued a Complete Response Letter in September 2025 for the SMA application. It cited observations at a third-party fill-finish manufacturing facility, not the clinical data. The Phase 3 SAPPHIRE study was positive in October 2024, and a Type A meeting with the FDA in November 2025 was described as constructive. Management anticipates approvals in the U.S. and Europe in 2026. Anticipated approvals are not approvals, and the resolution of the manufacturing observations is outside the company's control. We therefore give no credit to sales that have not started. All three cases are valued at $0 per share. In the bear case, the manufacturing deficiencies drag on or approval fails and the company keeps burning cash with no revenue. In the base and bull cases, we found nothing signed, approved or already producing earnings that we can name and evidence, such as an approved label, a commercial contract, or a revenue history. A first product launch, market share, pricing and future indications are all things that have not yet happened, so they are excluded. A zero is not a claim that the science will fail. It means the business as it stands has no demonstrated earning power to value. The cash on hand funds the losses rather than creating value beyond them. We did not deduct debt, though the filing references a credit facility, and we could not size any effect on the cases. What would make this wrong: FDA approval of apitegromab and a sales record showing it earns more than its costs. That would make an earning stream that can be valued, and the analysis would be redone then. The margin-of-safety price is $0 until that happens. The company disclosed no going-concern warning in its latest annual report. One item could not be reconciled: the 2018 operating cash inflow of $24.6 million reflects collaboration payments received in advance, not operating profit. Working capital movements were not separately isolated, and operating cash flow was used as reported, which does not change the conclusion.
