Business condition attached to the margin of safety
SGT-003, the lead Duchenne gene therapy, has been approved by the FDA and is generating product sales with a documented cost of goods and a path to positive owner earnings.
Solid Biosciences is a clinical-stage gene therapy company. Its lead candidate, SGT-003, is a one-time intravenous treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, tested in the Phase 1/2 INSPIRE DUCHENNE trial, where 41 participants had been dosed as of March 18, 2026. It also has SGT-212 and SGT-501 in early trials. The company has no approved product and has never completed a clinical trial. Its only revenue was collaboration revenue in 2021 (about $13.6 million) and 2022 (about $8.1 million) from Ultragenyx, and our data show none reported since. What the business earns today: nothing. We measure earnings as cash from operations, less working-capital swings, less stock compensation, less the part of capital spending needed just to stand still. On that basis the company has lost money every year we measured. Per share, the figures are about -$24.63 (2020), -$9.60 (2021), -$12.32 (2022), -$4.88 (2023), -$2.79 (2024) and -$1.91 (2025). The per-share loss looks smaller in recent years only because the share count grew from about 3.5 million in 2020 to about 87.5 million in 2025 (weighted average, diluted); in total dollars the 2025 loss of about $167.5 million was larger than 2024's $114.0 million. Cash used in operations was $156.3 million in 2025. Stock compensation ($16.9 million in 2025) is treated as a real cost, and other non-cash items such as depreciation and fair-value changes are already reflected in cash flow. Our figure reconciles to net loss plus non-cash charges and working-capital changes with no unexplained gap. Financing: at December 31, 2025 the company held $187.9 million of cash and securities. In March 2026 it raised about $226.4 million more in a private placement, selling 14,973,257 shares at $5.61 plus pre-funded warrants for 27,807,482 shares. Management says this funds operations into the first half of 2028. Management concluded there is no substantial doubt about operating for the next twelve months, but the money is being spent on trials, and the company says it will need additional capital to keep operating beyond that runway. The pre-funded warrants alone add over 27 million shares to the share count beyond the 78,967,888 shares outstanding at year-end 2025. The three cases. Our approach credits only what is already secured or is the output of a repeatable, proven process. Nothing here qualifies. No product is approved, no sales contract exists, and the company has never finished a trial, so the earnings from a future Duchenne therapy are a hope, not something in hand. The March 2026 interim data are encouraging, with one Grade 3 immune-mediated myositis event reported as treatment-related, but early open-label data do not secure approval, reimbursement or manufacturing at scale. Bear: the trials disappoint or the regulators require more than expected, spending continues at roughly the 2025 rate and the raised cash is used up around the first half of 2028 with nothing earned. Value per share is $0. We record zero rather than a negative number because shareholders cannot lose more than they invested. Base: the same, because without a named and evidenced source of earnings, the cash raised is consumed by research and development. Value per share is $0 on our method, since the cash on hand (roughly $414 million combined, $187.9 million at year-end plus the $226.4 million placement) is committed to the burn of more than $150 million a year. Bull: we can name the best case, which is an approval of SGT-003, but we cannot point to evidence that secures it today, so we assign it no value. Value per share is $0. If SGT-003 is approved and sells, this will change and we will revisit. What would make this estimate wrong: a successful approval and launch would produce real earnings and far more value than our $0. That upside is real, it is simply not yet evidenced by anything we can measure. On the other side, further share issuance would dilute existing holders even if the science works. Margin-of-safety price: $0. No positive price is supported today; the estimate would be revisited only after SGT-003 is approved and selling.
