Business condition attached to the margin of safety Two or more consecutive quarters showing both (a) year-over-year growth resuming in new laser (LDD) placements, and (b) stock-based compensation falling as a share of revenue -- concrete confirmation that the operating-leverage path assumed in the base case is actually underway, rather than a continuation of the 2025 slowdown.
RxSight makes the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), the only FDA-approved intraocular lens that can be fine-tuned after cataract surgery using UV light, and the Light Delivery Device (LDD), the console used to perform that adjustment. The business runs on a razor-and-blade model: RxSight places LDD consoles in ophthalmology practices, then sells a LAL (a single-use consumable) for every procedure performed on that console. As of the end of 2025 there were 1,134 LDDs installed, up 16.9% for the year, and roughly 300,000 LALs have been implanted since the company's inception. 2025 was a mixed year. New console placements fell sharply -- 163 LDDs sold versus 305 in 2024, a 46% drop that management attributes to slower adoption among practices and doctors, consistent with a broader pullback in capital-equipment spending at surgery centers. At the same time, LAL (consumable) volume kept growing, up 12% to 109,615 units, as existing consoles were used more heavily. Because consumables carry a much higher margin than the capital equipment, overall gross margin actually improved, to 76.6% from 70.7%, even as total revenue slipped 3.9% to $134.5 million. The softness continued into early 2026 -- revenue was down sharply in the first quarter versus a year earlier -- before nearly leveling off in the second quarter, which is the most recent data available. This is still an early-stage, unprofitable business. Owner earnings (operating cash flow after removing the effects of working-capital swings, stock-based compensation, and the portion of equipment spending tied to placing new consoles) have been negative every year since the company began reporting as a public filer. Using the three most recent fiscal years -- which better reflect the business at its current scale than the much smaller company of 2021-2022 -- owner earnings have run around negative $46 million, or roughly $(1.13) per share, most recently. Stock-based compensation, which has grown from $7.6 million in 2021 to $31.6 million in 2025, is the single largest drag on that figure and is not assumed to shrink in this analysis absent evidence that it will. The company carries no debt -- a term loan was fully repaid in 2023 -- and holds a debt-free balance sheet with roughly $276 million of equity, so it is not at near-term financial risk, but it has consumed a large amount of shareholder capital to reach its current size and has not yet demonstrated it can do so profitably. Three scenarios were built from what's actually in evidence today, not from a hoped-for recovery in capital spending broadly: The bear case assumes the 2025 slowdown in new console placements persists rather than resolves, consumable growth flattens as the installed base stops expanding, and stock-based compensation stays elevated as a share of revenue indefinitely. Under this path the company does not reach sustainable profitability within a defensible ten-year window, and on a pure owner-earnings basis the equity would be worth less than nothing -- about $(7) per share. In practice, the company's cash cushion would soften the impact on shareholders relative to that number, but the underlying operating business would not be covering its cost of capital. The base case assumes new console placement growth stays muted, in line with the current trend, but the consumable side keeps compounding the way it has every year since 2021, including through the 2025 slowdown, as the existing (and slowly growing) installed base is used more intensively. Combined with the margin-mix improvement already underway, this path shows losses gradually narrowing and the business crossing into modest owner-earnings profitability by around the sixth year, reaching roughly $37 million annually by year ten. That produces a present value of roughly $7 per share. The key assumption that could go either way is stock-based compensation: this case holds it flat as a percentage of revenue rather than assuming it declines, since no specific target has been disclosed. The bull case assumes console placements recover toward their 2024 pace -- a level the company has already demonstrated it can achieve, not a new high -- while the consumable growth trend and margin improvement continue. That produces roughly $20.90 per share. Given how much separates these outcomes, and that the path to profitability depends on assumptions (particularly around stock-based compensation) that are reasonable but not yet proven in the data, the margin-of-safety price is set well below the base-case estimate. One item could not be fully reconciled from the filings: the durability of RxSight's technology edge beyond the next several years turns on patent protection whose specific expiration dates were not disclosed in the filing reviewed.

Revenue decline driven by a 46% drop in new laser (LDD) placements (163 units in 2025 vs 305 in 2024) due to slower practice adoption, partly offset by 12% growth in consumable lens (LAL) unit volume (109,615 vs 98,055) as the installed base (1,134 LDDs at year-end, +16.9% y/y) kept ramping utilization; gross margin rose to 76.6% from 70.7% on the mix shift toward consumables.
