RPC is a US oilfield services provider - pressure pumping, coiled tubing, downhole tools, rental tools, and since April 2025 wireline through the Pintail acquisition - and its owner earnings, meaning operating cash flow less capital spending less stock-based compensation, show no trend at all, only a cycle: roughly $58 million in 2016, $5 million in 2017, $137 million in 2018, negative $50 million in 2019, $4 million in 2020, negative $27 million in 2021, $55 million in 2022, $206 million in 2023, $120 million in 2024 and $40 million in 2025. That averages about $55 million a year over the decade and about $79 million over the last five, or roughly $0.25 per share through the cycle, against a business now doing $1.6 billion of revenue and carrying about $150 million of net cash with essentially no financial debt beyond a $30 million seller note from the Pintail deal; the roughly $22 million of lease obligations are ordinary vehicle and facility commitments already paid for inside operating cash flow. The first half of 2026 threw off only about $4 million of cash after capital spending, management has raised 2026 capital spending guidance to $170-190 million, and it will not reactivate idle fleets at prevailing prices, so the company is plainly in the low part of its cycle today. Our base case starts from normalized owner earnings of $65 million growing 4 percent a year for a decade, a 2.5 percent terminal rate and a 10 percent discount rate, which values the shares near $5. Our bear case assumes pressure pumping stays structurally oversupplied - the condition that produced negative owner earnings in 2019 and near-zero results in 2017, both well before any pandemic - with owner earnings stuck near $35 million, 1 percent growth and a 12 percent discount rate for the volatility, giving about $2.10. We deliberately ground that downside in 2016 through 2019 rather than the 2020-2021 collapse, because the pandemic trough was an economy-wide shock while the equipment oversupply, completion efficiency gains and customer consolidation that hurt 2019 are permanent features of this industry. Our bull case assumes the shift toward less capital-intensive service lines lifts through-cycle cash generation to $120 million growing 4.5 percent at a 9 percent discount rate, worth about $10.40. The spread is intentionally wide because that is what the actual history looks like. We anchor the margin-of-safety price on the downside scenario rather than the middle one: we are roughly 85 percent confident intrinsic value is at least that $2.10, since the balance sheet is unlevered and the figure sits close to the company's net liquid assets, but we have little better than coin-flip confidence in the mid-case while current-year owner earnings run near zero. An uncertainty premium of about a quarter off that anchor gives a margin-of-safety price near $1.60, reflecting a business that has earned a mid-single-digit return on capital across two complete cycles. Two caveats: we use gross capital spending rather than a maintenance-only estimate, which is conservative for a company that also sells used equipment, and the acquired wireline business has only three quarters of history inside the company.
