PTC sells the software industrial manufacturers use to design products and manage product data: Creo for computer-aided design, Windchill for product lifecycle management, Onshape for cloud design, Codebeamer for requirements, and ServiceMax for field service. Nearly all revenue is now subscription. Customers keep their part libraries, bills of material and engineering change processes inside these systems for decades, so switching is slow, costly and rare, and the field of serious competitors is short: Dassault Systemes, Siemens and Autodesk. The business needs almost no physical investment; capital spending is well under 1% of revenue. Earnings level. We measure owner earnings as operating cash flow with the year's working-capital swings removed, less stock compensation (a real cost to owners, running $175 million to $225 million a year, around 8-10% of revenue) and less the capital spending needed to stand still. Because this business carries debt, we first value the cash it produces before paying lenders by adding back interest, then subtract what it owes. On that basis the business produced about $396 million in fiscal 2021, $499 million in 2022, $502 million in 2023, $573 million in 2024 and $903 million in 2025. We anchor on the median of those five years, about $502 million. Earlier years are excluded because the shift from one-off licence sales to subscriptions, completed in 2019, depressed cash flow and describes a different business. The 2025 figure is not used as the level for three reasons visible in the filings: about $90 million of it came from tax bills accrued but not yet paid; it includes Kepware and ThingWorx, about 6% of recurring revenue, sold to TPG in March 2026; and a wave of longer contracts in 2025 pulled licence revenue forward, with long-term receivables up 89%. Note that removing working capital changes PTC's picture materially in some years: in 2021 and 2022 receivables grew sharply, and in 2025 they did again, so these cleaner numbers sit above reported cash flow in those years and below it in others. Amortisation of acquired intangibles (about $46 million a year) is added back as a sunk acquisition cost; we treat the acquired products as durable because they sit inside the same customer workflows, but PTC bought much of its decade's growth (about $2.7 billion of acquisitions, roughly equal to its cumulative owner earnings), and we do not credit any future acquisitions. Debt. At 30 June 2026 PTC had about $1.42 billion of borrowings (the $500 million 4.0% notes due February 2028 plus its bank revolver and term loan maturing January 2028) against $351 million of cash, and it still owed roughly $100 million of tax on the Kepware and ThingWorx gain. Net debt is about $1.16 billion, or roughly $10 a share on about 115 million diluted shares. Both maturities fall in early 2028; with business cash flow more than six times the interest bill and the notes trading near par (about $490 million for $500 million in September 2025), refinancing is not a material risk in any case. Borrowing rose in 2026 because PTC spent about $1.33 billion buying back stock in nine months, funded by the sale proceeds, cash flow and the revolver. Base case: worth about $11.2 billion as a business (about $108 a share), less net debt, about $97.60 a share. Growth comes from what is in the bag: recurring revenue has grown at roughly 8-9% in constant currency for several years through price increases and seat expansion within the installed base, and remaining performance obligations rose 27% in 2025. We credit 7% a year for three years, 5% for the next three and 3% for the last four, with no further growth after year ten, the level then sustained by the switching costs and installed-base pricing power already in evidence. Last year's actual growth in pre-financing cash flow was about 58%, distorted by the timing items above; year one is set at 7%, well below it. Not credited: new markets, artificial-intelligence products, margin expansion, acquisitions. Bear case: worth about $7.0 billion as a business (about $60 a share), less net debt, about $50 a share. It includes one industrial downturn of the kind manufacturers' engineering spending has actually suffered: in 2009 PTC's revenue fell about 13%, and in the 2020 shutdown new bookings stalled. We take cash flow down roughly 15% then a further 10% over two years as seat counts shrink and renewals are negotiated down, recover over two years, then grow only 2% a year as larger rivals with broader platforms (Siemens Xcelerator, Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE) hold price, with a slow fade after year ten. Business cash flow never falls below about three times interest in this case. Bull case: worth about $18.2 billion as a business (about $158 a share), less net debt, about $148 a share. Recurring revenue keeps compounding near its demonstrated 9% for four years, then 7% and 5%, with modest growth beyond year ten, resting on the same installed-base pricing and seat expansion PTC has shown for a decade, not on new products. What changed since our previous analysis: earlier figures were built on a different basis and are not comparable. On the business itself, the Kepware and ThingWorx sale has closed, the proceeds and more have gone into buying back about 5% of the shares, and net debt is roughly flat. Margin-of-safety price. We are reasonably confident of the earnings level: five years on the current subscription model, with the level set at the median rather than the strong 2025 print. The worst plausible outcome is a deep industrial recession coinciding with a competitor platform shift, cutting cash flow by a quarter for two years; the business survives this easily, because customers are diversified across aerospace, automotive, industrial machinery and medical devices, debt is modest, and the product is embedded. The things we are most likely to be wrong about are how much of 2025's strength was timing, and whether price increases keep sticking; if both go the wrong way the shares look worth around $55-65. Stock compensation will keep diluting owners by roughly 1-2% a year before buybacks. The business pays no dividend, so returns come from its cash flow being reinvested in buybacks and from the price moving toward value. The margin-of-safety price is $55 a share, roughly the bear-case worth, against about $4.30 a share of pre-financing cash flow a year; if the business simply performs to its median path the shares should be worth near $100 within three to four years, which implies above a 20% annual return, and the bear case implies roughly breaking even. Above about $55 the 20% target depends on the median outcome arriving quickly, which the estimate does not assume.

Sales geography
Americas (mainly United States, all regions, plus Canada and Latin America) about 48% of revenue; Europe (notably Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden) about 36%; Asia Pacific (Japan, China, South Korea, India, Taiwan) about 15%.
Historical growth strategy
Grows by selling more seats and modules to an entrenched base of industrial manufacturers, raising subscription prices, and buying adjacent software businesses with debt (Onshape, Arena, Codebeamer, ServiceMax, pure-systems), then repaying the debt from cash flow. Completed a multi-year shift from perpetual licences to subscription by 2019. Since 2025 the emphasis has moved from acquisitions to pruning non-core products (Kepware and ThingWorx sold in 2026) and large share repurchases.
Chart analysis
A chartist would see a long-term uptrend that stalled into a deep correction, with the shares falling to about $108 at the low of the past year before a sharp rebound to the mid-$190s, close to the 52-week high near $207. The recovery has retraced nearly the whole decline, so the prior highs around $200-$207 are the resistance to watch; a decisive close above them would read as a resumption of the long-term uptrend, while a failure there would suggest a double top with support first around the $160-$170 area where the rebound consolidated.
