PMV Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (PMVP) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityHigh Updated
Business condition attached to the margin of safety Rezatapopt is approved and sold commercially, and the business has shown positive owner earnings for at least two consecutive years.
PMV Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage cancer drug developer with no products for sale and no revenue since it was founded. Its lead drug, rezatapopt, is an oral pill designed to repair a specific defect in the p53 tumor-suppressor protein (the Y220C mutation). The company received orphan drug designation from the FDA for ovarian cancer with this mutation in March 2026 and says it plans to submit a New Drug Application for platinum-resistant or platinum-refractory ovarian cancer in the first quarter of 2027. What the business earns today: nothing. We measure earnings as cash from operations, less working-capital swings, less stock-based pay, less the maintenance portion of capital spending. On that basis the company has lost money every year we could measure: about -$2.37 per share in 2020, -$1.27 in 2021, -$1.72 in 2022, -$1.53 in 2023, -$1.14 in 2024 and -$1.53 in 2025 (cash used in operations of $73.6 million in 2025, with $5.9 million of stock-based pay deducted). Loss per share was larger in 2025 than in 2024, so we assume no improvement in the near term. Our cross-check of reported net loss plus non-cash charges against cash flow agreed within about 4% in 2025. Bear, base and bull cases: we value each at $0 per share. Our approach credits only what is already secured or is the output of a long-proven repeating process. A drug that has not yet been approved, a submission that has not yet been filed, and future sales that have not begun are none of those things, so we assign them no value. With no contracted revenue and no history of profits, there is nothing evidenced to discount. We recognize the upside if rezatapopt is approved could be large, but its size and timing cannot be pinned to anything in the filings today, so we leave it out rather than guess. That is a statement about what we can support, not a forecast that the drug will fail. The cash pile is real but is being spent. At June 30, 2026 the company held about $79.4 million in cash and marketable securities ($12.5 million cash plus $67.0 million of short-term securities), roughly $1.49 per share on about 53.4 million diluted shares. That is down from $112.9 million at December 31, 2025. The company used $34.3 million of operating cash in the first half of 2026, so at that pace we estimate the cash lasts into the second half of 2027. To keep going it will very likely need to raise money; the company has an at-the-market stock-sale program with $113.8 million of capacity remaining as of December 31, 2025, and any sales would dilute existing shareholders. The 2025 annual report does not contain a formal warning that the company may be unable to continue operating. What would make this estimate wrong: FDA approval of rezatapopt on the planned timetable and commercial sales large enough to cover the roughly $70 million a year the company now spends. If that happens, we would revalue from actual sales and earnings. Sources: FY2025 Form 10-K (accession 0001193125-26-095014) and the second-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q (accession 0001193125-26-350448).
