NutriBand Inc. (NTRB) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityHigh Updated
Business condition attached to the margin of safety The company reports positive operating cash flow after stock compensation for at least four consecutive quarters, or signs a commercial agreement that funds the AVERSA Fentanyl approval path and produces recurring profit.
Nutriband earns its revenue from two small services businesses. Pocono Pharmaceuticals (operating as Active Intelligence) makes topical and transdermal (skin patch) products under contract for health, wellness and over-the-counter customers at a plant in Cherryville, North Carolina. 4P Therapeutics does contract research and development for pharmaceutical and medical-device customers. The story the company tells investors, however, is its own product under development: AVERSA Fentanyl, a fentanyl patch built with abuse-deterrent technology. In September 2025 the company met the FDA on manufacturing plans and is working toward an application to begin a human abuse-potential study. It is being developed with Kindeva Drug Delivery under an agreement amended in February 2025 that shares development costs in exchange for milestone payments. What the numbers show. Revenue has been about $2 million a year for four years ($2.08 million, $2.09 million, $2.14 million and $2.04 million in the years ended January 2023 through 2026), and the business has never produced positive cash from operations in any year we could measure. Cash used in operations was $5.13 million in the year ended January 31, 2026, against $4.63 million the year before. After removing working-capital swings, subtracting stock-based compensation ($2.63 million last year, a real cost paid in shares) and a small maintenance capital spend, our owner earnings per share were negative every year from January 2022 to January 2026, ranging from about -$0.44 to -$0.67 per share and getting worse as stock compensation grew. Share count rose from about 7.9 million to 11.6 million over that time. Recent trend. In the six months ended July 31, 2026, revenue was $0.87 million against $1.29 million a year earlier, and cash used in operations was $1.15 million against $2.65 million. The smaller burn came with much lower sales, and the company disclosed that it lost a customer that had been 24% of revenue; three customers made up 63% of revenue for the year ended January 2026. Losses are shrinking but the business is shrinking too. Cash and funding. At January 31, 2026 the company held $4.57 million in cash. Management concluded that doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern is alleviated, but it also states that it has relied on sales of stock and related-party and third-party debt to fund operations and that it will need to raise substantial funds to develop its products, which dilutes existing shareholders. Its Nasdaq listing carries the usual minimum-price and governance requirements, and the company settled an SEC proceeding in 2018 over earlier disclosures about its consumer products. Bear case: $0 per share. Cash burn continues at or above the recent pace, funding comes from new shares, and the AVERSA program stalls before approval. The company keeps consuming cash, so there is nothing left for current shareholders. Base case: $0 per share. We can only credit value that is contracted, proven or already earned. The company as a whole has never produced positive operating cash flow, and AVERSA Fentanyl still needs an application, a human abuse-potential study and later approval steps, none of which has happened. The Kindeva milestone payments depend on development progress, so we do not treat them as earnings. With no named source of positive owner earnings, the business is worth nothing to a shareholder on today's evidence, and the cash on hand is being used up by ongoing losses. Bull case: $0 per share. Even if AVERSA Fentanyl progresses on schedule, no approval, sale or royalty stream exists today that we can point to, so we do not credit it. Any value from a future approval is an option, not an earnings stream we can value. What would make this wrong: a clear FDA path with funded partner commitments, or services revenue that grows to cover costs, would change the picture. Neither is evidenced in the filings so far. The margin-of-safety price is zero. Accounting notes: stock compensation was treated as a real expense. Every year is negative on this basis, so small differences in other non-cash items would not change the conclusion.
