Lyft runs a ridesharing marketplace, earning a share of rides booked through its app in the United States and Canada, plus bike and scooter sharing, the Flexdrive subsidiary that rents vehicles to drivers through its Express Drive program, and, since July 2025, the European Freenow taxi app (nine new countries and more than 180 cities). Revenue grew from $2.4 billion in 2020 to $6.3 billion in 2025, and 96% of 2025 revenue was booked in the United States. What the shares are worth depends on how much cash the business truly leaves for owners after paying for everything. We start from operating cash flow, then take out the cash that came from working capital, subtract stock compensation as a real cost, and subtract only the capital spending needed to maintain the business. The working-capital step matters a great deal here. In 2025 Lyft reported $1.17 billion of operating cash flow, but $829 million of it came from working capital, mainly a rise in insurance reserves (commercial auto insurance costs per mile went up and ride volume grew), insurance-related accruals and legal accruals. Those are costs already recorded that will be paid out later, so we do not count them as earnings. On this basis owner earnings per diluted share were about -$0.05 in 2025 and +$0.05 in 2024, versus losses of $1.16 in 2023 and $4.05 in 2022. Net income of $2.8 billion in 2025 is not a measure of earning power: it came from a one-time release of a tax valuation allowance. Anchor and growth: the business has only been near break-even on this basis for the last two years, after stock compensation fell from $751 million in 2022 to $322 million in 2025. We therefore use the median of 2024 and 2025, about $0.00 per share, as the earnings level. Owner earnings growth in 2025 was flat to slightly down, and the base case also assumes no growth in year 1. We did not credit growth from further margin gains, share gains or the Freenow acquisition: none of these is contracted or a repeated, self-funded process. The first half of 2026 shows similar patterns (operating cash flow of $658 million, stock compensation of $163 million, net income of $65 million) and does not change the level. Base case: about $0.00 per share. Owner earnings stay near zero, because rising insurance costs and heavy stock compensation absorb the cash the business generates. Bear case: about -$1.30 per share. Owner earnings return to a loss of roughly $0.50 per share a year for three years, as insurance costs per mile keep rising and accrued legal and insurance liabilities have to be paid out in cash. On this basis the company lost between $1.16 and $11.58 per share every year from 2019 to 2023, so a return to losses is a documented risk. Bull case: about $5.36 per share. Owner earnings rise to $0.25, $0.50 and $0.75 per share over three years, then hold at $0.75 through year 10 and fade to zero over the following three years. This extends what the company has already done: it improved this measure from -$4.05 to about zero in three years while revenue grew about 15% a year, and it repurchased about $500 million of its shares in 2025 (the diluted share count fell from about 418 million in 2025 to 386 million in the second quarter of 2026). Our estimate of what a share is worth is therefore centered on roughly zero, with a small chance of meaningful value and a real chance of further cash burn. The margin-of-safety price is set very low, at about $0.75 per share. This estimate would be wrong if insurance costs stabilize while volume keeps growing, so that the working-capital inflows we exclude turn out to be permanent, or if stock compensation keeps falling faster than we assume. Proceeds from vehicle sales ($52.9 million in 2025) and finance lease payments ($41.3 million) roughly offset each other and we did not adjust for them. Items we could not fully reconcile: the split of 2025 accrued liabilities between insurance and legal accruals is not itemized in the filing.
