LeonaBio (formerly Athira Pharma) is a clinical-stage drug developer with no product revenue. It has two candidates: lasofoxifene, acquired from Sermonix in December 2025 for ESR1-mutated metastatic breast cancer (Phase 3 ELAINE-3), and ATH-1105 (Phase 2). Neither is approved anywhere, and lasofoxifene's European approval for osteoporosis lapsed in 2012. The company has never generated positive owner earnings. Cash burn after stock compensation and working-capital swings was roughly $(14) per share in 2021, $(23) in 2022, $(31) in 2023, $(26) in 2024 and $(6.6) in 2025 (share counts adjusted for the September 2025 1-for-10 reverse split). The 2025 accounting net loss of $105.6 million was mostly a non-cash charge for acquired research and development, which we add back as a sunk acquisition cost. There is no earnings stream to value, so the value here rests on the cash the company holds and how much of it survives the trials. Cash and investments were $88.3 million at December 31, 2025, and management says this funds operations for at least 12 months. A roughly $90 million private placement in December 2025 added shares and pre-funded warrants; share count has risen sharply (about 23.7 million weighted diluted shares in Q2 2026 versus 4.3 million for 2025). First-half 2026 operating cash burn was about $37.9 million. We could not confirm from the filings we had access to how much of the December financing was already in the year-end cash figure, so all cases are approximate. Bear case (about $0.50 per share): ELAINE-3 fails or stalls, spending continues until the trial result, and only a small share of the cash is left to return. Base case (about $2.00): we credit only the cash remaining after spending to date, roughly $50 million over about 24 million diluted shares, and give no value to either drug because no approval, contract or revenue is secured. Bull case (about $2.50): the same cash position with somewhat lower spending. We do not credit any approval or sales, because these have not happened; a successful Phase 3 would be worth far more, but that is not something we can evidence today. What could make this wrong: positive ELAINE-3 results would make the shares worth much more than shown; further equity raises would dilute per-share cash. Nasdaq minimum-bid non-compliance in 2025 was cured by the reverse split. Also, milestone payments owed to Sermonix's sellers are a contingent liability that could reduce the residual value. This analysis is the first for this company.
