Business condition attached to the margin of safety A signed commercial contract under which a brine owner deploys an MDLE plant and pays recurring revenue, showing the plant works at commercial scale.
International Battery Metals is a pre-revenue technology company. It designs modular direct lithium extraction plants (MDLE plants) that pull lithium chloride out of underground brine for use in battery-grade lithium carbonate. It has developed an initial plant design and is marketing it to brine owners, principally in the Smackover formation in Arkansas and Texas. It has never booked revenue from a commercial deployment, and the filings name no signed contract that would generate any. What the numbers show: operating cash flow was negative $13.5 million in the year ended March 2025 and negative $9.7 million in the year ended March 2026. After adding back the small working-capital swings and deducting share-based pay (about $1.0 million in FY2026) and equipment spending ($0.4 million), the business consumed about $10.8 million in FY2026, or roughly $0.036 per share, versus about $14.4 million ($0.060 per share) the year before. The small reported profit in FY2026 came from non-cash gains on the revaluation of warrants, not from operations, and we ignore it. Cash was $9.4 million at June 30, 2026 against roughly 362 million shares. The business has funded itself by selling shares and warrants, including to entities controlled by a director, and management states that recent placements cover its obligations for the next twelve months while saying that without additional funds there would be substantial doubt. Cases: Our approach credits only growth that is secured or proven. Nothing here qualifies: no contract, backlog or track record of commercial operation exists. The base case therefore values the ongoing business at $0 per share, because the roughly $10 million yearly burn consumes the cash on hand and future funding would come by issuing more shares, diluting today's holders. The bear case is also $0: the cash runs out before the technology earns anything, and shareholders are left with little. The bull case is $0.03 per share, about the value of the $9.4 million of cash on hand spread over the share count, reflecting the case in which spending is contained and the technology is sold or licensed for at least what is in the bank. We left out any value for future lithium plants, the lithium price, or licensing and royalty revenue, because none is contracted today. What would change this: a signed commercial deployment paying recurring revenue would give us something concrete to value. What could make this too low: the technology is patented and modular and could attract a buyer. What could make it too high: continued cash burn and dilution could leave shareholders with less than the cash figure suggests.
