Business condition attached to the margin of safety The shares trade at least about 20% below the fund's own published net asset value per share on the same day. Each share holds roughly 0.0133 troy ounces of gold, so the $42.00 figure assumes gold near $4,026 per ounce (its June 30, 2026 level) and scales up or down with the gold price.
What this is: Franklin Responsibly Sourced Gold ETF is not an operating business. It is a trust that holds allocated physical gold bars in JPMorgan Chase Bank's London vaults and issues shares against them, listed on NYSE Arca since June 30, 2022. It only accepts gold refined after 2012 under the London Bullion Market Association's Responsible Gold Guidance, and an independent inspector (Bureau Veritas) counted the bars in June 2026 with no discrepancies. It has no revenue, no customers, no debt and no employees. Its only expense is the sponsor's fee of 0.15% of assets a year, paid by selling a sliver of gold each month. How we value it: Because the trust earns nothing, its cash earnings are simply minus the fee: about $0.03 per share in the partial first year, then $0.04, $0.05 and $0.08 per share in the years to March 2024, 2025 and 2026, rising only because the gold price rose. We treated the gold sold to pay the fee as spending down the asset, not as operating cash. What each share is worth is the gold it owns. At June 30, 2026 the trust held 103,173 ounces against 7.75 million shares, or 0.01331 ounces per share, worth $53.59 per share at that day's London gold price of about $4,026 per ounce. That ounce count shrinks by about 0.15% a year (it fell 0.14% in the year to March 2026), and this slow shrinkage is the only thing we can forecast. We do not forecast the price of gold in any case. It is a market price, not something the trust controls, so every dollar figure here moves one-for-one with gold. At the March 31, 2026 gold price of $4,608 the same shares were worth $61.37. Nothing is owed to lenders. The only liability is about $50,000 of accrued fee, already deducted in the $53.59. Bear case ($52.25): The case assumes the shares are held indefinitely and never exit at full asset value, so the 0.15% fee is borne forever. At a 6% discount rate that fee costs about 2.5% of the gold's value. The trust is worth $52.25 per share with nothing owed. Base case ($53.00): The case assumes the fee is paid for about ten years and the shares are then exited at asset value. Authorized dealers can swap shares for gold and back in 50,000-share blocks (4.3 million shares were created and 1.05 million redeemed in the year to March 2026), which keeps the share price close to the gold per share. Ten years of fee cost about 1.1%, so the trust is worth $53.00 per share with no debt. Bull case ($53.59): The case assumes the shares can be exited at full asset value at any time, so the fee barely matters. Worth $53.59 per share, the full value of the gold behind it. The narrow range is not a claim that this is a safe investment. The number of ounces per share is highly predictable, but their dollar value is not. Gold fell about 12.6% in the single quarter to June 2026 after rising 48% the year before. The trust cannot grow what it owns and pays no income, so any return above the gold price could come only from a share price below asset value. Because of the dealer swap mechanism, that discount rarely lasts. Other risks named in the filings are loss or theft of bars held in London, where the custodian's liability is limited, and the sponsor's right to close the fund. A closure would return gold value to holders less costs.

Chart analysis
Price history is limited. We have no daily trading data, so this reading uses the fund's reported asset value per share, which the share price closely tracks. The fund listed in mid-2022 at $25.00 and has risen in a steep, accelerating uptrend: $26.48 at March 2023, $29.57 at March 2024, $41.54 at March 2025 and a peak year-end reading of $61.37 at March 2026. By June 2026 it had pulled back to $53.59, about 12.7% below that high and the first significant correction in its history. A chartist would call the long-term trend strongly up but extended, with the move turning almost vertical in 2025 to early 2026. They would see the June 2026 drop as a test of whether the prior breakout area in the high-$40s holds as support, or whether a larger retracement of the parabolic run is under way.
