Braze sells cloud software that lets brands such as retailers, banks and media companies send personalised messages to their customers by email, mobile app and web. Almost all revenue is subscription ($701.8 million of $738.2 million in the year ended January 31, 2026). Revenue has grown from $238.0 million in fiscal 2022 to $738.2 million, and contracted future revenue stood at $1,033.0 million at January 31, 2026, of which $642.1 million is due within a year. Customers with at least $500,000 of annual recurring revenue rose from 247 to 333 in the latest year. What the business earns for its owners. We count stock-based pay as a real cost, remove the cash that arrives simply because customers pay subscriptions in advance (and other working-capital swings), and deduct the maintenance share of equipment and software spending. Sales commissions that Braze capitalises ($65.2 million paid in fiscal 2026, against $41.3 million expensed) are treated as a genuine recurring cash cost. On this basis the business used about $141.9 million in fiscal 2026 (about $1.32 per share), compared with $117.6 million (about $1.15) in fiscal 2025 and $146.6 million (about $1.49) in fiscal 2024. Reported operating cash flow was positive at $71.4 million, but $143.7 million of stock compensation (19% of revenue) and $60.3 million of advance billings and other working-capital inflows more than account for it. We use the fiscal 2024 to 2026 median of about negative $1.32 per share as the starting level; the earlier two years describe a much smaller business. Owner earnings did not improve in the latest year (about negative $1.15 to negative $1.32 per share), so the first year of every case assumes no improvement. Bear case: $0 per share. Net retention (how much existing customers spend year over year) has slipped from 117% to 111% to 109% over three years, and the losses on this basis have persisted for five years. If they simply continue, roughly $415.9 million of cash and investments at January 31, 2026 would be used up in about three years, leaving nothing for owners. The company's cash flow statements show no borrowings in recent years, so the value cannot fall below zero. Base case: $0 per share. Nothing in the filings guarantees that the losses shrink. Operating margin improved from negative 30% to negative 21% and then negative 20% over fiscal 2024 to 2026, and sales and marketing fell from 52% to 44% of revenue, but on our basis the latest year was no better than the year before. Even a slow improvement of 1.5 percentage points a year, with revenue growth slowing from 14% to 3%, would leave the business still unprofitable after ten years and the cumulative losses far larger than today's cash. We give no credit for margin gains because the company has not yet delivered them on this basis. We credit only the contracted revenue and the customer base already in place, and neither turns the earnings positive. Bull case: about $14.19 per share. Here the operating leverage seen since fiscal 2024 continues at 3 percentage points a year for ten years, while revenue growth eases from 18% to 3% a year (from 24% in fiscal 2026, with contracted future revenue up from $793.1 million to $1,033.0 million in the last year). Owner earnings turn positive in year 7, reach roughly 11% of revenue by year 10, and are then held flat because we can point to the subscription base but not to further growth. Losses of about $141 million in the first year, shrinking each year until the turn to profit in year 7, are deducted first. Other things that matter. In June 2025 Braze bought OfferFit (now AI Decisioning Studio) for $303.2 million, partly in newly issued shares; the diluted share count rose from 107.9 million (fiscal 2026 average) to 111.3 million in the quarter ended July 31, 2026. We do not credit any benefit from this acquisition. What could prove this wrong. In the first half of fiscal 2027 revenue grew about 28%, the net loss narrowed to $45.4 million from $63.7 million, and stock compensation fell to 16% of revenue from 20%. If that continues and shows up in cash after stock compensation, results would move toward the bull case. Our rough estimate of owner earnings for those six months on the same basis is still a loss of about $54 million against about $40 million a year earlier, because much of the reported cash flow came from customer prepayments; we could not fully reconcile every working-capital line for the quarter. Margin-of-safety price: $1.00. Only the bull case is worth much, the base and bear cases are worth nothing, so a large margin of safety is needed. That price is less than a third of the roughly $3.7 per share of cash and investments the company held at January 31, 2026 (using the latest share count), a cash cushion that offsets part of the risk while it becomes clear whether the bull case develops.
