What this is: Breakwave Dry Bulk Shipping ETF (BDRY) is not an operating company. It is a fund inside Amplify Commodity Trust that holds short-dated freight futures tied to Baltic Exchange dry bulk shipping rates, plus Treasury bills and cash posted as margin. It earns no product revenue and has no business earnings to value. Its shares are worth what the fund's net assets are worth, and those net assets rise and fall with dry bulk freight futures prices. Because a fund of this kind produces no owner earnings stream, we value it on its net asset value (NAV) rather than on projected earnings. What we can verify: at June 30, 2025 (the latest annual audited filing) BDRY had net assets of $65.8 million on 11.70 million shares, a NAV of $5.63 per share. That was down from $12.13 a year earlier (June 30, 2024) and $5.53 the year before that, so the share price of the fund has moved by more than half in a single year in both directions. The trust as a whole reported a net loss of about $17.5 million in the year to June 30, 2025 and a gain of about $46.5 million the year before. Fund-level costs are modest but real: the sponsor fee is the greater of 0.15% of NAV or $125,000 a year, and total annual expenses were capped at 3.50% through December 31, 2025. The fund's interest income on its Treasury holdings offset most of these costs (net investment loss of $0.08 per share in fiscal 2025). Base case, $5.63: a freight futures position is a zero-sum bet. Nothing we can name and evidence gives the fund a lasting edge or a predictable return above its fees, so we credit no growth and value each share at its last audited NAV. We are not forecasting freight rates: an expected rise in shipping rates is a market view, not a fact about this fund. Note that the trust reported combined net assets of about $100.0 million at March 31, 2026 versus $67.1 million at June 30, 2025, and a strong nine-month gain, so the NAV has very likely moved since June 2025; we could not obtain the per-share figure for BDRY at that date, and the number above is therefore out of date. Bull case, $5.63: we found no named, evidenced mechanism that would make the fund worth more than its net assets. Rates could clearly move sharply up (the fund's NAV more than doubled in fiscal 2024), but that is speculation on freight prices, which we do not credit. Bear case, $2.60: the fund lost 54% of its NAV per share in fiscal 2025 ($12.13 to $5.63). A repeat of a decline of that size, which has happened in the fund's own filed record, gives about $2.60. Freight futures have shown no tendency to stay at any level, so a large fall is a documented outcome rather than an imagined one. Margin-of-safety price: a price close to NAV for a zero-sum position with fee drag does not support a 20% annual return in the base case, and the fund's own history shows drops of more than half in a year. The margin-of-safety price is therefore set near the bear-case value. What would make this wrong: an up-move in dry bulk freight futures raises NAV well above our base figure, and the shares can trade at a small premium or discount to NAV. Our figures also rely on NAV from mid-2025 and do not reflect the most recent quarters.
