BICYCLE THERAPEUTICS PLC (BCYC) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityHigh Updated
Bicycle Therapeutics develops a class of medicines called Bicycle molecules for cancer, including Bicycle Toxin Conjugates. Its lead candidate, zelenectide pevedotin, targets Nectin-4 and is in the Duravelo-2 trial in metastatic urothelial cancer. The company has no marketed product. Its revenue ($72.6 million in 2025, $35.3 million in 2024) comes from collaboration agreements with partners including Novartis, Genentech and Bayer, and that revenue is largely the recognition of deferred partner payments. In 2025 cash used in operations was $249.7 million and the net loss was $219.0 million. Because cash flow is negative every year, the earnings power we can support is negative: owner earnings per share were about -$1.74 (2019), -$2.89, -$2.63, -$4.90, -$4.72, -$3.11 and -$3.14 (2025). We treat share-based pay (about $39.5 million in 2025) as a real cost and remove the swings from deferred revenue and other working capital. The 2025 loss looks smaller than the cash burn partly because $69.2 million of previously received partner payments was recognised as revenue without new cash arriving. We used seven years because the company has been in this development stage throughout. A cross-check of net loss, depreciation, share-based pay and working-capital lines against operating cash flow was within roughly 2 percent for 2025, but did not fully close for 2024 (about 11 percent), where an offsetting non-cash item could not be identified from the tagged data. Bear, base and bull are each worth $0 per share. The reason is that nothing named and evidenced today produces positive owner earnings. The candidates are unproven: a registrational path for zelenectide pevedotin, further partner milestones (the filing says the timing and likelihood of achieving them cannot be estimated), and new partnerships. Under our approach, growth or profits that depend on trial results and approvals that have not happened are left out rather than discounted. The company reports about $628.1 million of cash at the end of 2025 ($510.1 million at June 30, 2026) and expects it to fund operations for at least 12 months from the filing date, but the business is consuming it at roughly $200 million or more a year, so we do not count that cash as value that reaches shareholders. In the bear case the burn continues without a product and the cash is exhausted. In the base and bull cases we still cannot identify earnings that can be defended, so they also come to $0. The company's own recent update supports caution: in its 2025 annual report it said it plans to convert Duravelo-2 to a randomized Phase II trial, deprioritise internal development of zelenectide pevedotin while it evaluates next steps after preliminary regulatory feedback, and discontinue its breast and lung cancer trials of the drug. What would make this wrong: an approval, or a partnership paying large enough cash milestones or royalties to turn operating cash flow positive. The shares today represent a research pipeline and the remaining cash, not a current earnings stream. The margin-of-safety price is $0 because no earnings-based value can be supported.
