Arlo sells Wi-Fi security cameras, doorbells and lights, and, increasingly, the monthly and annual cloud subscriptions that run them. In 2025 revenue was $529M: about $316M of subscriptions and services (up 30% on 23.7% more paid accounts and higher revenue per account) and about $213M of devices (down 20%, as Arlo cut device prices to win households and absorbed $13.5M of extra tariff cost). Year-end recurring subscription revenue was $330.5M across roughly 5.7 million cumulative paid accounts. How we measure earning power: we start from operating cash flow, remove swings in receivables, inventory, payables and deferred revenue, and then deduct stock-based compensation as a real cost (about $62M in 2025, roughly 12% of revenue) and the part of capital spending needed to stand still. On that basis Arlo has been improving but has not yet earned a surplus for owners: per share, -$1.87 (2019), -$1.21, -$0.56, -$0.61, -$0.24, -$0.31 (2024), and roughly break-even at +$0.01 in 2025 (about $1M in total). Reported net income turned positive in 2025 ($14.9M), but that includes a $4.1M lease-termination gain and $5.5M of interest on its cash balance. Capital spending jumped to $11.8M in 2025 from under $3M a year; we treated nearly all of it as maintenance. We do not use the earlier loss years as the level because the business has changed from a hardware seller to a subscription business, and we do not lift the level above the latest year on hope; 2025 is the level, and the improvement since 2024 (about $32M in total) is a fact, not a forecast. Base case ($3.20 per share): owner earnings rise from about $1M to roughly $10M in the first year, and to about $40M by year five, then hold. The first-year step is smaller than the $32M improvement just delivered. What supports it: year-end recurring subscription revenue of $330.5M is already above the $316M recognized in 2025, so roughly $14M of extra revenue at high margin is in place before any new customer is added; paid accounts have grown every year and grew 23.7% in 2025; subscription gross profit rose $75.6M in 2025. We assume that growth tapers and that device margins stay under pressure. After year ten we assume the earnings persist for another five years and then fade to zero over five more as cameras age and competitors (Ring, Google Nest and others) keep pressing. Left out: the ADT distribution partnership (no revenue recognized yet), new products and any margin recovery on devices. Bear case ($0.45): device price cuts and tariffs keep eroding device profit, subscriber growth stalls, and owner earnings stay near $6M a year, then fade. One retail customer in EMEA is the largest source of device sales, and shipment timing there already cut 2025 device revenue, so this is a visible risk. Bull case ($6.00): paid-account growth of 20% or more continues for several more years at current subscription profitability, with owner earnings reaching about $80M and holding for a decade before fading. What would make this wrong: the value depends on subscriptions growing faster than stock compensation and device losses. If paid-account growth falls sharply or stock compensation keeps rising with the share price, owner earnings would stay near zero and the shares would be worth much less. The margin-of-safety price reflects a wide safety margin because earnings have only just reached break-even, the industry is competitive, and hardware exposes the company to tariffs. Shares outstanding have also risen about 20% since 2022. The company has no going-concern warning in its latest annual report.
