Allogene Therapeutics, Inc. (ALLO) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityExtreme Updated
Business condition attached to the margin of safety An approved product generating positive owner earnings (after stock compensation) for at least two consecutive years.
Allogene Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing off-the-shelf (allogeneic) CAR T cell therapies for cancer, led by cemacabtagene ansegedleucel (cema-cel) in large B-cell lymphoma and in the ALPHA3 trial for minimal residual disease, plus ALLO-316 in kidney cancer. It has no approved product and has never had operating earnings. Revenue has been negligible outside one-time collaboration revenue (about $114 million in 2021, $4.6 million in the first half of 2026). On a cash basis, after adding back nothing that is a real cost, the company has consumed roughly $250 to $310 million a year of owner earnings in 2020-2023 ($-2.08 to $-1.89 per share), falling to about $183 million in 2025 ($-0.83 per share) as spending was cut. Stock compensation, which was $37.6 million in 2025, is treated as a real cost. Cash burn from operations fell to about $45 million in the first half of 2026 from about $92 million a year earlier. The share count rose from roughly 120 million in 2020 to about 285 million in 2026 as the company sold shares to fund itself; management reported $258.3 million of cash and investments at the end of 2025 and expects it to fund operations for at least twelve months. All three cases are valued at $0 per share. We only credit value from things that exist today: a signed contract, an approved product, a demonstrated earnings record. None exists here. The ALPHA3 interim futility analysis (scheduled April 2026) and the cema-cel programs are hopeful but unproven, and the trial was already amended after a Grade 5 (fatal) adverse event in the arm using ALLO-647, which narrowed the design. A successful trial, approval and commercial launch have not happened, so they are left out of the bull case rather than discounted. The bear case is also $0 because the business continues to lose money and future share issuance dilutes holders further; we do not build a negative value because the company can stop spending. The cash on hand is a fixed sum that the ongoing losses are steadily consuming, and it is not an earnings stream. The margin-of-safety price is $0, meaning that on the numbers today the analysis supports no positive price. What would change this: an approval of a product and evidence that it earns money after stock compensation, and after that the analysis would be redone. This could be wrong on the upside if cema-cel succeeds in the pivotal-stage trial; that outcome is real but cannot be evidenced today. Note: working-capital effects were estimated from the payables and prepaid lines that are tagged in the filings; other smaller lines were not separately available and the amounts are small relative to the cash burn.
