Aeva Technologies, Inc. (AEVA) stock intrinsic value fair value estimate & owner earnings analysis

Margin of safety$0.00 ComplexityHigh Updated
Business condition attached to the margin of safety Revenue grows enough to cover operating costs, so that the company generates positive cash after stock compensation and capital spending, sustained over several quarters.
Aeva Technologies designs 4D lidar sensors built on frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) technology for vehicles and industrial uses, including its Atlas automotive sensor and Eve 1D industrial sensor. In 2025 it recorded $18.1 million of revenue, up from $9.1 million in 2024 and $4.3 million in 2023. That revenue is small next to the cost of running the company. Cash from operations was negative every year we reviewed: $(115.1) million in 2025, $(106.9) million in 2024 and $(118.8) million in 2023. We measure what the business earns for its owners as operating cash flow, less swings in working capital, less stock-based compensation (a real cost, since it is paid in shares that dilute holders), less the part of capital spending needed just to stay in place. On that basis Aeva lost $1.96 per share in 2025, $2.71 in 2024, $3.16 in 2023, $3.39 in 2022 and $2.47 in 2021. The 2025 improvement of about 28 percent from 2024 comes from revenue doubling while the net loss stayed close to flat. We use 2021 to 2025, the period since its results began to be reported as an operating company, and the median is about $(2.71) per share. In 2025 and 2021 the revenue jump was large enough that we treated all capital spending as growth spending rather than upkeep. Non-cash items such as a $21.5 million increase in the fair value of warrant liabilities and a $3.8 million loss on a joint development agreement are already excluded because they use no cash. Base case: $0 per share. To be worth something on our method, a company needs a named, evidenced stream of positive cash to discount. At year-end 2025 Aeva had $34.8 million of contracted future revenue, about 31 percent of it due in 2026, but nothing in the filings shows those contracts turning into positive cash after stock compensation and capital spending. We do not credit hoped-for automotive production programs, margin expansion or market growth, none of which is secured. Revenue doubling from $9.1 million to $18.1 million is real, but it is not in the bag as a path to profit: the 2025 cash loss was about six times revenue. Bear case: $0 per share. The company has consumed more than $100 million of operating cash a year for the last three years and has relied on outside capital, including a standby facility under which Sylebra may buy up to $125.0 million of preferred stock at the company's request until November 8, 2026, and a $20.6 million common stock placement in 2023. If that funding is not renewed or replaced, shareholders have no operating earnings to fall back on. A share cannot be worth less than zero to a holder, so the case is floored there. Bull case: $0 per share. The levers management can point to, such as the LG Innotek share subscription in 2025 and the doubling of revenue, are early and do not yet show a route to positive earnings on evidence we can name, so they are not included. What would make this wrong: revenue growing fast enough to cover a cost base that produced a net loss of about $145 million in 2025, which has not been demonstrated. Shareholders should also expect continued dilution, as stock compensation was $21.8 million in 2025.
