Business condition attached to the margin of safety Alpha Cognition's quarterly operating cash burn (after removing working-capital swings and stock compensation) is shrinking and is covered by ZUNVEYL revenue, with cash on hand no longer the binding constraint.
Alpha Cognition sells ZUNVEYL, an oral tablet for Alzheimer's disease that the FDA approved and the company launched on March 19, 2025. It targets long-term care (nursing home) pharmacies with its own account-based sales team. This is a first-product launch company that is still losing money, so the valuation is driven by how long its cash lasts, not by earnings power. What the numbers show. Revenue was $10.2 million in 2025 and $9.6 million in just the first half of 2026 (second quarter 2026: $6.1 million). Three customers made up 48%, 22% and 17% of 2025 revenue. But the business consumes cash. Our measure of owner earnings (operating cash flow, less swings in receivables, inventory, prepaid and payables, less stock compensation, less maintenance capital spending) was about minus $9.6 million in 2023, minus $8.7 million in 2024, and minus $20.6 million in 2025 (roughly minus $1.16 per share). In the first half of 2026 it was about minus $15.3 million, or roughly minus $30 million a year. Losses are widening faster than revenue is growing. Cash fell from $66.0 million at year-end 2025 to $41.4 million at June 30, 2026. Only 2023 to 2025 filings were available, so the history is three years and mostly pre-launch. Cases. We only credit earnings we can point to, and there are no profits to point to yet. Revenue doubling year over year is encouraging but not proof that the business will reach break-even, so we give it no credit. - Bear: burn continues or rises, cash runs out before the end of 2027, and any new funding dilutes existing holders. Nothing is left for today's shareholders: $0 per share. The only debt we saw is a small related-party note of about $0.9 million, so the value does not fall meaningfully below zero. - Base: the first-half 2026 burn (about $30 million a year) continues until the $41.4 million of cash is used. Cash minus the present value of that burn leaves only about $0.05 to $0.08 per share on roughly 21.8 million shares; we use $0.05 because of the unreconciled cash drop described below. Nothing after that is credited. - Bull: the burn returns to the 2025 level of about $21 million a year (a rate the company has actually run), stretching the cash roughly two years. That leaves about $0.10 per share. We did not credit sales growth, a wider Alzheimer's market, or a combination product with memantine, because none of these is secured or proven yet. Margin-of-safety price. With no earnings, a small cash cushion relative to the burn, and a likely need to raise money, the margin-of-safety price is set near zero, at $0.02, together with a business condition (shown separately). What could make this wrong. If quarterly revenue keeps rising as it did from the first to the second quarter of 2026 while spending is held flat, the business could become self-funding and be worth far more than these cases. The filing says existing cash should cover operations for at least the next 12 months and that the company may raise capital, with an at-the-market share issuance program with H.C. Wainwright in place since August 2025 (unused when the 10-K was filed). Option and warrant liabilities ($8.0 million combined at December 31, 2025) are non-cash and do not reduce cash but move reported profit. We could not fully reconcile the $24.7 million drop in cash in the first half of 2026 to reported operating cash outflow of $18.7 million, so the burn could be worse than the base case assumes.
